I just purchased a used 2007 SandSpider 650 and am trying to find information on engine servicing and repair. I'm quite comfortable with my little GY6 engines, but I haven't worked on an engine like this since the Yugos were popular. Is this smaller engine based on a Chery or Suzuki derivative? It's definitely not the Yugo-Fiat engine from my past.

I have heard two diffrent answers to that question. First answer was an Isuzu and the second was Mitsubishi(actually a clone of one of these designs). My 07 Sand Spider arrived with a tag wired to the engine with chinese writing and the numbers LJ276mt-2. I was told it was a LJ276m, which the tag confirmed. I google the engine number and the picture from the exporter's web site showed a picture that was the LJ276m. I still don't which manufacturer it is a clone from, but have not looked any farther. If you can figure it out, please post the info. Other than the owners manuel/parts list I have not found any service manuels for this engine.
good luck,
Clint

Our engine comes in propane derivative for industrial applications. Kinroad has model not available here, the GK650-2 Cyclone with the same engine. The Germans can get our engine in a buggy with a catalytic converter called the NewStreetStyle NeSS Strandbuggy 650cc.[/url]

The 650 engine in the Joyner products comes from this manufacturer:

http://www.lingdico.com/en/about.asp

Quote:
Taixing Lingdi Machine Co., Ltd. is a joint stock company invested by Taixing Sandi motorcycle Co., Ltd. and Liuzhou Machine Plant of Liuzhou Wuling AutoMobile Co., Ltd. The gasoline engines we produce are used for mini-cars, high displacement three-wheeled vehicles, ATVs, gasoline generating units, etc. Our products have passed CCC certification. The annual production capacity is 60,000 sets and will reach 150,000 sets when the second phase of construction is completed.

Our main products are LJ276M and LJ276MT-2 series motorcycle engines. Being the sole manufacturer of this range of engines at home and abroad,we pride ourselves in our cutting-edge technology and distinctive products and services, which have filled in the gaps in the field. Our products become ideal choices for economy vehicles, and have bright prospects for export as supporting components for high-end products.

Further research shows it is an Isuzu derivative, but I have not found a service manual or any Isuzu references to the original design.

YES I have 3 different manuals to cover this engine. Complete inside and out. Plus full parts listings, oh, yes stock and carry the parts too.
I have one manual all about its tourque specifications etc. This engine stokes some power if tuned right.
A word of caution DO NOT run hot spark plugs unless you want to do a valve job every 10,000 miles. Yes we have run these in our units for years,
in answer to some of the other questions,
WHO MAKES IT, would you believe these were first designed to be irrigation pump engines, and used on boats with direct prop back in 1999. WOW so much info. Anyhow they are a Mitsubishi base engine. However if you go to Mitsubishi they have no way to find anything.
OK so how do I know so much, I use these in the USA version of the Tuk Tuk. I did not want the Diahatsu even though I own the USA import division. I was not very happy after Toyota bought out Diahatsu, and they dropped to many parts. So after 1 year of research I decided to use this motor. It is a fantastic little engine. With little to no break down.
Another word of caution,,,, do not use a Auto Zone, Advance Auto Parts, etc, oil filter, use ONLY the right factory oil filter. I noticed that the others do not allow proper oil pressure in the higher rpms. ONLY THE OEM allows proper delivery. I have them too.!!!!
Tell me what you want, I have it.

For any of us who may have an older relative looking for something a little more novel to putt around in than a golf cart, put up a pic or 2 and ballpark pricing of popular Tuk tuks. I'm sure I'm not the only one who's never heard of one til just now (thanks again, Google!).

The engine is A mitsu derivative not an isuzu engine. I have bought parts such as crank bearings through my local parts store. They had a book that listed european truck engines that showed this as an engine in mini trucks in europe. They also showed the 1000cc chery engine used in many of these karts as a truck engine designed by suzuki and used in mini trucks from 83-89. Check your local auto parts store first it will surprise you the info they have if they want to cooperate, and the price is way better. For example crank bearings for 1000cc 239 a set from company refered to me by the people I got my kart from. 89 a set from local auto parts store. Same bearings in the same box even. Van
