I am making a small trailer for my kart, its made from some 1 1/4" angle iron and is 2' wide and 40 or so inches long. Its a small project to practice welding on, and it would be nice to have to move things.
I also might be the NEBA repair buggy so I would use it for that too. Here are some pics
I have some John Deere tires that I will put on there when I get a new bearing. _________________ NE Gang member
are you using a stick welder? If so, your heat is either too high and that is why you are not getting a full weld along that line, or you did not prep the surface enough... I would recommend using gas on that thick of metal if you are not doing so already. You are making welding "slugs", but not one even bead... It takes a lot of practice and experimenting with heat range and form, however, with some good metal, you can cut and practice for days on end!!!
Grind that metal better!!!! Use a scotch pad on a dremel if you have to, but get all that rust cleaned off before you try to weld it!!!
On mine you cant adjust the heat. And on the coners I did get all the rust off of them and beveled the edges. I have to grind them down and do any nother pass, when I was welding it I messed the seem
hmmm...can you add gas to that welder? I know those are expensive, but an Argon mix will make a HUGE difference to a bead on that thick of metal.. No matter how YOU weld, it will still come out as a thick bead, and you can always GRIND!!! lol
the actual problem with the welding is travel speed. your traveling to fast. slow down and watch the puddel of molten metal. It should stay roughly the same size. _________________ 06/07 GSX 150 Carter Talon

It disappeared from my garage, I don't know were it went but I bet its there with some of my tools that are missing.
But since I have some barstool racer plans that I bought like 3 years ago I might build that and use all the parts off my kart or something. _________________ NE Gang member

wtf... they stole a half built trailer? lol! somone didnt pass theif school..
Anyways.. With stick.. move slow, and make sure you have the right sticks for your welder. That will make a big difference to. Stike the arc and eep the same distance from the peice at all times. Dont just move down... go side to side and down or even in a figure eight pattern and down _________________ Derek E. "FL250Modder"
great advice!!!!! That is exactly how I learned!!! An old guy with an ARC showed me... And for mig, he told me just draw a smile over and over again!!!! lol
