Here's my favorite mod:

Costs a whopping $0 to do and gets you a minimum of 5mph more speed with no downside. Polaris put a plastic speed limiter ring in the CVT clutch to keep the speed to the rated 55mph (no doubt at the insistence of the company legal department). Take a broken hacksaw blade or wide screwdriver and heat the end up cherry red. Push it thru the plastic ring in 2 places & remove the pieces. Done. Now go get crazy on the back roads Twisted Evil

you can also go to your local Polaris dealer and pick up the sportsman 800 cdi box. not cheap but will open everything up. also the sportsman 800 cvt internals to help in that area. we have done that same type of mod on the Rhino 660/700fi's form the grizzly 660/700fi's and had produced 70-80+mph. wicked fast for something that was 42mph stock. no warranty will be left though. only down side.

60 is plenty fast for me and the acceleration is fantastic so I don't plan any engine or timing mods. I keep reading that there's no center bearing on the 800 crank so raising the rev limit is asking for the engine to explode--not going there, either.

What difference is there between the SP800 clutch and the Rzr clutch? Looks the same to me. You can change shift points and response by playing with springs & weights but you won't go any faster unless the pulleys are larger.

everyone who has done the swaps on the RZR and Rhino have taken all internal tranny parts and switched. then the cdi box was done and no one has blown anything up yet to my knowledge.

i am no mechanic. technical questions i dont have answers for, i just go off what my customers tell me they did and swapped. i will look into it for you if you would like?

If you could, I'd appreciate it. I've always understood the Rzr clutch is identical to the SP800.

Gimme a break...I don't want envy. Haven't even said much about the Rzr--not sure how well it "fits" here. I've been kinda torn on whether there should be a UTV section on BN. It's getting harder to label offroad machines. Buggies like the Trooper are getting awfully close to being a small Jeep. And there isn't much "utility" in a Rzr, yet it's not quite a buggy, either.

Just got back from the Parts Dept. and Service Dept's. The driven clutch is the same. (by part #'s) Cdi is different Belts and internals are different, possibly due to the different tranny cases. My Service manager said to try the CDI and that would give you the biggest bang for the buck. I will continue to do research for you if you like? send a parts break down via fax?

Oh you didn't. It would take much more...like saying you prefer the Rhino, for example. Razz
