I am getting a lot of requests to increase the performance of the TJ 150 and TJ 250 carts I am selling.
You guys are the pros and I am looking for your advice on the best performance parts to offer my customers.

Thank you- Allan

I hope the other dealers read this wish list as well.

The easiest modifications are to the transmission and ignition. Also if the buggies are required to pass emission or sound tests, this should not effect them.

The CVT components that can be upgraded:
1. CVT Filter
2. Larger Variator ramp
3. Different weight rollers and sliders
4. Standard or kevlar CVT belts
5. Vented clutch bell housing
6. HIT or other performance clutches
7. Different torque springs
8. Final transmission gear sets

Different size axle sprockets and aftermarket o-ring chains are also easy upgrades.

Ignition items are another easy upgrade:
1. Hi performance coils
2. Race or adjustable CDIs
3. Iridium spark plugs

Suspension and wheel upgrade kits are also easy bolt ons.

If emissions are not an issue, then you should look at the following:
1. Low restriction intake kits
2. Prefilters or prechargers
3. Different size carb jets
4. USFS performance exhaust systems

Advanced upgrades would include the following:
1. Larger cylinder/piston kits that require case machining
2. Stroker crank kits
3. Large-valve or 4-valve head upgrades
4. Different cam grinds

Accessories for buggies should include:
1. Larger stators
2. Auxillary or higher capacity batteries
3. Auxillary lighting
4. Auxillary gauges
5. Winch kits
6. Extended capacity fuel tanks
7. Tube-frame attached mounting systems and racks
8. Hard and soft pack luggage
9. Towing accessories
10. GPS and radio mounts
11. Safety flags, harnesses and personal safety equipment

That is an awesome list - well done!

I'd add just one more thing - new tires. My stock HH250 tires were ok, but nothing compared to the Mudlites I'm running now - night and day.

That's the wheel upgrade kits I listed.

I'm sure there's more to add to the list. I can tell you I know more than any of the dealers in my area and I am constantly trying to educate them to bring up the level of knowledge in my area.

Allan,

That's a big question to answer in one post. My advice, search around here for the specific information you need.

Do you want more top end, more torque, or a good overall package? How much money does your client have in their budget? Will they do the work or you?

My son spent more on upgrades then he did for his cart. Now a large part of that was a reverse kit @ $300. Tires, shocks, suspension, exhaust, air intake, and CVT upgrades account for about $1000 or so and he did all his own labor.

The 150/250cc engines are easy to upgrade and get more juice out of. Slap a UNI on there, put a performance pipe on and then re-jet the stock carb.

Put new tires and shocks on.

Upgrade the CVT with rollers, a clutch and a spring.

That about covers it in a short response.

This is the place... Look around you're sure to pick up on this stuff quickly.

By the way, those are some nice bikes you have for sale.

That list is VERY APPRECIATED. If I wanted to spend between $300 and $600 what would be the best BOLT ON performance parts you would recomend.
I was thinking about Stage 1 kit consisting of - High performance exhaust, intake and then removing some of the clutch weights. Do you think those would be good upgrades? Would there be a noticable difference in performance? Do you think these changes would work well for the 150 and the 250?
What manufacturers for intake and exhaust do you think is the best bang for the buck?

I was also thinking of a stage II kit that would include the stage 1 kit and also a high performance CDI box and coil. Do you think these additions to the Stage 1 kit would increase performace over the stage 1 I mentioned? What do you recomend for the manufacturers for a high performance CDI Box and coil?

Thanks again for all your help.... I have sold hundreds of the TJ buggys and have had great luck with them. Just in the last month or two I have been getting a lot of requests for the high performance stuff and I want to put together some nice packages for the 150 and 250 carts.

MRP has most of the parts that you'll need. If you don't already have an account with them set one up. I forget what the minimum 1st order amount has to be but it looks like you'll be able to meet their requirements.

"... Hundreds of buggys.." That's a lot of product. How many years did it take you to sell the "hundreds"? That has to put you in a top-seller category with TJ.

You should get everyone of your customers to setup an account on here. Also, we have a national buggy bash that you may want to take part in.

Your idea of a Stage 1 and a Stage 2 kit are good. There's an internet retailer that specializes in Yerf-Dog parts that has a Stage 1 and a Stage 2 kit. You should do some more research to find out what they include and how much they are charging.

Good Luck and we hope to see you around here for a long time.

By the way, if you haven't done so you should register on here as a Vendor. It will tell everyone what you're main interest is.

Good Luck and we're here to help.

I have been open since July 06 average about 6 carts per month. November and December typically sell 12 to 18 carts per month.
I guess "Hundreds" was the wrong word, but I have sold over a hundred if that counts : ).
Thanks again for all your help.

ps. Tj is great to me. Great product and great people.
