Well since I'm extremly bored this morning I thought I'd stop in here for a laugh.
(sorry guys-geesh-this is the "Other ATVs" forum right RIGHT-whew)
The reason I got a bit ticked is because this IS the "Other ATVs" forum I didnt expect and was not willing to get ragged on for talking about non buggy atv's at this particular forum section.
So yeah I didnt get the wife and a buggy but went with 2 china dual sport bikes but of course she couldnt handle hers in the sand so I get her the 350 raptor.
I pieced together a 250x-to-300ex quad for me just for fun.(what a project)
But I'm still missing that buggy type vehicle fun, you know the side-by-side seating fun of blasting down the trails type fun.
I do have a vehicle that I will use a bit more.
It's not a tube frame buggy but it is fun offroad and with a few mods it will be a blast.
This I would expect some "ribbing comments" about and most likely would even help you out because yes yes I like to laugh .
This is an old picture of it but it still looks just like that still and we even have a bit more snow than when this was taken.
The thing I like about the tracker is it is street legal which for me is important as far as a buggy goes and it is very much like but not as good in some ways as the UTV's.
I bought this new at the end of 2002 for a little bit more than what a UTV cost.
This will be our buggy for now but it does need a lift kit and larger tires and I want a hardtop for it.(hardtop is more for winter)
I've been saving it but will press it into more service this summer, it needs to be driven more.(only 27K miles)
I seen a sandrail on a T-trailer for sale nearby that is rough but workable but decided to pass on it but I did tell a guy from work about who may save it hopefully.
That will make an awesome buggy. Do you plan on taking all the panels off the vehicle? Strip it down and build it up. NICE!!! _________________ Custom Buggy http://www.buggynews.com/topic13417.html

Nope, just gonna run it as it is but with a small lift kit and larger tires and some side rails.
It may need a roll bar though, hadnt really thought to much about that though.
The brakes need work just from sitting so I'll be doing a complete brake job asap.
It's the ZR2 so it has some rock shields underneath but they could be much better IMO.
My ideal buggy would start off as a vw vanagon syncro driveline(it's 4X4), tube framed with a type 1 convertible beetle body with a baja kit.(just to keep it mostly VW)
I just dont have the cash or garage to get into that big of a project.
You may be suprised at how well it does. I had the Suzuki 4 door 4cyl version and loved it. I am an old CJ 5 guy... and was not expecting much from the vitara, but because it is so light, it did real well. My brothers all have 4x4 v8 pick ups and would laugh at my little ride. But with such a short wheel base and its light weight and great manuverability, I could loose them in the woods or trails at will. I left them high centered on many hills...and it was my turn to laugh at there "big tough trucks"
I upgraded to the 6cyl Isuzu amigo that did great until the motor imploded at 60k miles
Now I have a new 4x2 pick up for hauling stuff at the cabin, and the buggy and Trail boss do all of the playing.
Ride what ya brung and have a blast.

We've taken it offroad a little and it does ok but it does need a bit more clearance. It is a very nimble ride and will almost fit down the atv trails here but I wouldnt want to get caught on them, I'm afraid they'd tear the ORV sticker off the back and ban us from the trails (at a cost no doubt).
It only has a 4cyl 2.0 in it and a 4 speed auto tranny which sucks at times but it's still fun to drive. There is a company that sells complete GM 4.3 engine conversion kits that could probably set me up with a very high output engine but it costs several thousand dollars and would most likely just tear up the car.(still, it's tempting)
I've always liked those amigo's they look like of a bigger version of the tracker.
that thing is awesome!!! First thing I said to myself when I saw the pic was MONSTER TIRES!!! lol. I would lift it 6" and put a set of 16" rims... Maybe beadlockers if $$$ allows, and a nice set of rubber!!! Does skyjacker make a kit for these??? I love the idea!!! has more options than my buggy does!! lol
You only need about 2-3" of lift to fit 31x10.5-15 tires. Since it is a small engine, don't go over 33" tall tires unless you plan on leaving it in low range permanently. Minimizing lift will keep your center of gravity manageable. Find some offset rims that will push out the tires on the corners - This will increase your stability on off camber slopes. Samurai's and Tracker's make great trail buggies with the 2 liter fuel injected engine, you are way ahead of the carburetored 1.3 liter in the original Suzuki's. _________________ 08 Joyner SandViper 250
