Been lurking for awhile. Wasn't going to purchase until the spring. But, got online for the auction this morning and ended up being surprised at winning the auction for a new 2008 250 Joyner. I haven't seen it yet.
Anyway, I need to buy a trailer to haul it. Can anybody tell me what the outside dimensions in width is for the 250 exactly (outside dim's on tires)? The Thunder website says 60 inches, another site says 57 inches. I called Joyner and spoke to Felicia in Service - she said they measured at least 6 feet or 72 inches wide.
There is a good price change in a 5 foot wide trailer vs. 6 - so I was wondering if the 250 Joyner will go on a 60 inch wide trailer instead of having to get the 6 footer. I sure would hate to buy a trailer and - Doh! - it doesn't fit when I go pick it up 200 miles away!
Also, I found here using the Search function a list of the fluids that I'll need to change when I get 'er home and I'll do that pronto. Any recommended spare parts to take with me on our first trip out? CVT belt(s)? What else.
First post here ladies and gents, appreciate the help.
Where was the auction and how much did you pay for the Buggy. It helps us keep a mental note of price in the various areas of the US.
As far as the trailer goes, get the larger one. I've got two trailers. A smaller BigTex trailer and a larger flatbed dual axle 22' trailer with a beaver tail. The longer trailer isn't as wide as the shorter trailer. I now wish that the larger trailer was just slightly wider (2-inches would be great).
Look for a good used trailer. You can use the cost savings to get the larger of the two.
As far as what to take along on your trip:
1 - What part of the country are you in?
2 - How long will your first ride be? I'd take it easy on the 1st few rides until you get a feel for gas useage and relability.
3 - We put together a "kit" of sorts that contains some tools (wrenches, screwdrivers, etc.), fluids, a tow strap, etc. We put all of this into a plastic tools box and then strapped this box to the buggy.
4 - Don't go alone. Take someone with you.
5 - Don't forget your fuel and a spare set of keys.
6 - Have fun.
Welcome on board and good luck.

Congrats and welcome. Spare chain would be a good spare part. (no funny comments needed from the NEBA gang concerning a certain yellow buggy and appropriately named hill) _________________ TJ HH 150GT 2006

Thanks guys - great input. I like the idea of a used trailer, looks like a 60 incher won't get it, so I'll go 6 foot wide at least.
Teamhog, auction was in San Antonio, paid $2,250, supposed to be "unused". Not a super deal, but not terrible either. Again, haven't seen it, might need some work - we'll see.
Sure appreciate the quick responses gentlemen. I like the spare chain suggestion, also a toolkit - I'll have to put something from my garage together!
Live in Houston area, will be riding at properties in Central Texas, near Schulenburg, very gently rolling pastures and dry creekbeds. Another spot I'll be riding is near Kerrville Texas, aka the hill country - area is more rolly there and ground is very rocky limestone like material. Some dry creekbeds, thinly forested areas, and some pasture areas. Some existing trails to ride around on.
OK guys, I gotta' go shopping for a trailer. Sure appreciate the help!

I'm working on a project for Entergy right now. There's a chance I'll be in Houston , the Woodlands actually, quite a bit next year.
Have you thought about renting? If you're not going to be using the trailer a lot it may be a viable option.
Trailer City in Houston sells and rents trailers.

There are a few really cheap ones on craigslist that you could work with if you want to go that route.

Congrats on your new Joyner. I just boght one myself. Its a 650cc spider. I'm going to pick mine up tomorrow. I'm in the hill country myself, out near Fredericksburg. Where are you going to ride around Kerrville?
BTW I'm assuming the "texag" in your user name refers to a certain institute of higher learning in our beloved state. I also attended said institution, class of '88.
My buggy is also an auction buggy, but I'm buying it second hand. Current owner bought it and is having to unload it ASAP. If its as good as he claims its coming home with me tomorrow. _________________ Baja Reaction 150

Redneck, yes I'm an Ag too, class of 87, so we were there together. Howdy!
Did you purchase the auction buggy? Mine got picked up today and taken to Kerrville - I've still only seen pics. All looks well though. "Hollywood" over at the auction jumped it, and my Dad rode up the ramp onto the trailer. He said it sounded "gooooooood"!
I'll be riding up at a friends goat ranch there about 10 miles north of Kerrville. Redneck, how 'bout you, where do you ride in Fredricksburg?
At the auction, they put the "Lot No." stickers in two places on the buggy. They peeled off, but left a sticky glue residue. Anybody know how I can get that sticker glue off without tearing up the paint?
team hog can you tell me every thing you put in you kit i have bolted a militay amo box to my cart i had it on my old one just bloted it right on to the rack in the back and put peices of chain mic bolts nuts that came with it and brake fluid i need some tol what should i get hanks a heep _________________ 06 joyner 250 sand viper, red metallic..blue clutch spring 17 gram sliders
Ok, so I'm heading up soon to pick up my "unused" Joyner 250 bought at auction this week. First thing, I'm going to change all the fluids. What are the other things I need to do? I've read about locktiting everything. Is there a list of recommended nuts / bolts to pull, locktite and re-install - that seems like a lot of work to do them all.
Spare parts suggested were a CT belt and a chain, and sounds like I'll need to bring a new battery - since they had to jump it at the auction at loading. Any suggestions on where to pick up a battery? Any special kind of battery? A tool box with appropriate tools was also suggested, I'm putting something for that together now. Of course I'll need gas / petro. What else do I need to bring with me so that I can do some initial "testing" before I bring her home?
BTW, thanks ladies and gents for the good info on all this stuff. Short side story for fun - when my Dad pulled off the main highway and got out to open the gate to the property, he said a teenage boy pulled up, got out and asked if he could take a look at the "dune buggy". My Dad said the boy was drooling over it - Dad was a little surprised at the attention he got pulling that Joyner.
OK, sure appreciate any more suggestions or input on what I need to take for my first ride when I pick 'er up next week.
