Looks like you're having fun with it. I guess you might want to beef up the struts if you're going to keep playing Dukes of Hazzard. Very Happy

What are the lights you added to it? They look very bright even in the daylight. I'm also wondering why you opted for heavier sliders? Most people go lighter for more climbing power.

Keep the vids coming!

Jamie

Try looking for better shocks to take some of the load off the strut. Where is the strut breaking?

he strut is breaking at the very top of the strut theres a crappy bolt sticking out that attaches to the upper a arm the bolt itself is snappind.and the bolt comes from inside the strut its on a ball joint of sorts.so whole strut has to be replaced again.

there is a limited range of motion of the "ball joints" in the top and bottom of this style of strut. It is simply not capable of 4-wheeler style movement. They work good for what they are designed for but you are exceeding the capability. Bottoming out the suspension is putting pressure on this weak link, it cannot move any farther so it snaps.

In my opinion, you will need to either get stiffer shocks, or you could probably install some rubber under the frame where the a-arm meets at full compression, to act as a bumper or limiter.

I think you can take the shock and wheel off, and move the suspension up to it's farthest compression and see what I am talking about in regards to the ball joint. If you take the strut off, you can move the bolt by hand and see that it has a limited range that it can move, going beyond this causes failure.

disclaimer: I "think" this is what is occuring, but since I don't have a carter GTR I don't know.

good luck, looks like you are having fun finding the limits.

well, I don't know what shocks can be made to fit, since most 4-wheeler ones are at least an inch longer. You should be able to do a search and find some info. The shocks on one of the Dazons I have are SUPER stiff, all this style frame are 13.5-13.75" eye to eye. In the mean time, I would stick some thick rubber under the frame where the A-arms come close to contacting, that should act as a bump stop, maybe.

The way these are built (light in the front, heavy in rear, not enough power to lighten the front end, springy shocks etc.), they are going to hit hard in the front unless you are jumping something with a landing like a table top. Have you seen the video of the kid ragging out a poor GTR on a MX type course? most of these jumps have a landing, after watching that video a while back I was ready to buy one.

most of the time the first thing to go (when jumping) is the control arms where the rack and pinion connects to the strut, these bend up and break the welds, sort of the weak link. Many new buggies have addressed this issue finally though. If yours isn't reinforced then I would suggest welding a brace on it. good luck!
