So about six months ago I started to do some research on these buggy things and I found Buggynews. My job took me away from this focus for a while but I came back to it about three weeks ago and after reading and reading and READING I now will own three of these things.

First of all I cannot say enough good things about Tom at Kidinme. I got in touch with him after reading his reviews of the HH250. He has been straighforward, honest and good natured about answering all my geeky questions. He is a good guy and understands the strong and weak points of these buggies. There are not that many people out there that will try to NOT sell you something when they can. As a result I have ordered, from Tom at Kid in Me a 110 Blade for my son and a 250SS Hammerhead for myself, which should arrive in about two weeks. But....

...in the meantime I happened to be reading BN and saw the Costco Baja 150 post. It looked cool and so I called a friend of mine that works at Costco to see if she could hook me up with a deal. NO DICE on the deal but she was able to locate the stores that had them in stock that were near to me. A store about 50 minutes from me had four. From the time I finished reading the post to the the time the Costco guy finished loading the crate into the back of my dually was about three and a half hours.

I had wondered if I had built this whole buggy thing up in my head too much. I was careful not to get too excited about them. Managing my own expectations about the performance of these was tough but I convinced myself to not expect to much.

I make my living driving race cars and training others to do so. I honestly was concerned that my giggle-meter wouldn't even register but holy crap, who would have thought that 30 mph could be so much fun.

Not only has this forum educated me on the buggy offerings that exist, it has shown me that the buggy community is good natured, willing to help the new guy and genuinely enthusiastic.

I will post on the reviews posting section my thoughts and experience with the Baja so far.

My best to you all.

Go Steelers!!!

Peace,
Chris

I'm thankful everyday for my life. I started racing 10 years ago and while I have raced pro on a limited basis I make my living organizing amateur/semi pro road races and high performance driving schools. What I see within the buggy community so far is something VERY similar to what I see in those members of my organization. There is a very strong passion for the competition and the machines but a greater desire to have fun with good people.

Tom and I have some interesting ideas we are working on that may have the two communities intersecting.

Thanks for the welcome!!!

I grew up in Greensburg, Pa. and bleed Black and Gold but I have lived in the Richmond, Va. area for 15 years.

Peace,
Chris

Hey Steelerfan, glad you got your Dune 150 from Costco too. When I first layed eyes on it at Costco I thought "Dang, that is not too bad". Not really the Polaris RZR I really wanted but it had possibilities. Thank goodness to BN, otherwise I would not have gotten it. I reread the original thread and man, it really was a fun week of gathering information. I think posting the pics really helped get the word out and confirm that this is a decent buggy for the coin. Some of my favorite posts were "BUY IT".

Now that there are some more of us that have these new Dune 150s, we can share experiences. I have about four hours on mine and have not had a chance to check it over for loose bolts or anything. I had to go on a business trip this week to San Fransico and as my meeting ended a day early I was able to get an early flight home tomorrow. I should be home in time to go Dunnin'!!!! (is that a word?, if not it is now).

Glad you like the buggy. Hope to read more of your posts.

Later,
Jon

Hey Chris,
Thanks for the kind words!
It's a shame that you won't be able to go past 3/4 throttle for a few hours in your new 250SS Twisted Evil (Break in and all!)
I know you will take it easy in her and polish her and all 4 tires will stay in contact with the ground! Rolling Eyes
It might be a little harder when I blow past you in my "modded" 150SX but I can tell that, you're the kind that can control himself! Twisted Evil (I'll bring some performance parts just in case I'm wrong! ) Rolling Eyes
Can't wait to see the reviews and pics!
