Well boys,
Today I was on a mission to set the record straight about shiming.Kell a much respected master tried a 1/8 shim and was not satisfied with the results.
I put 1.7 hours on my buggy in tight trails and bush with a 5/16 shim in and I am about ready to say that is close to the best improvement I've made.
A while ago we discussed shimming and I put a 1/8 shim in and hoped people would experiment and improve upon this.Nobody bit!People believed and started marketing this whim but didn't advance in the test mode.(Thanks for thre faith)All buggiers and marketers need now try a 1/4 to 5/16 shim under the sleeve in the secondary clutch for the 25 min it takes to see the gain. The improvement with the corner to corner and staying in the powerband is great.I had the pet monster on two wheels half a dozen times tonight.
Take some time and give it a try.If you don't like it take it out no money lost.I useed exhaust tubing with a 2 1/4 o.d.
If you need more specifics I will scan a pic from my parts manual on exactly where it's suppose to go.Just let me know.
Ken

You need to remove outer sheave of drive clutch to remove belt. the clutch assembly slides off easily.

Raises your rpms throughout your cvt ratio and increasing your backshift for coming out of corners accelerating. Also increases belt tension for less chance of slippage which I feel keeps the belt cooler.Keeps you engine at higher rpms for hill climbing.
It's a cheap inexpensive mod that I like for my kinda driving and pulling my trailer. It may not be for everyone but it is worth the try.
Ken
