That's a 2 1/4 inch right. And thats the diameter. Also, what size do you recomend starting with? What's od?

Thanks for your help, much appericiated.

OD is outside diameter. Most guys that use the shim use either 1/4 or 5/16 thick. 5/16 would be the most that I would recommend.

Hey twister101, I just noticed in another post that you have purchased a performance torque spring. I would not recommend using a shim with a performance torque spring. The gain from a performance spring vs. a stock spring with shim are about equal. Both together would probably be too much. Just install your new spring and lighter rollers; you'll like it Wink

Thanks,
What do you mean by "both woul be to much"
Do you mean I would lose to much on the top end?

Yes, you more than likely would lose some top end speed if it would even come out of "low gear". Would probably be hard on the belt too. The shim is pretty much just an alternative to buying a performance spring.

jtsuttle,

So do you know how much I am currently losing off the top end with the power spring. I guess with the other mods. I've bought, it sould even out.

Thanks Smile

I dont believe you loose top end speed with a 1500rpm rated torque spring.

I believe the point was a 1500rpm spring and a shim being used togeather was bad and might take some top end speed, not that a 1500 spring takes away top end speed by itself. Smile

So does the spring actually increase top end speed also, or just low end?

The stronger spring is to help the clutch not slip.

The spring could possibly give you more top speed do to the additional belt squeeze. The idea behind the stronger spring is more for low end torque,it keeps you in a better ratio. The shim apparently loses some top speed depending on thickness.I run a 5/16 shim and gained speed but some people found chance of spring bind which could reduce top speed if shim is to thick.
If you have the better spring in theory it shouldn't increase top speed but it should help to get there faster. You shouldn't lose top speed either.
