Polaris wins $16M Army contract

Polaris Industries Inc. said Monday it was awarded a contract by the U.S. Army worth $16 million.
Medina-based Polaris (NYSE: PII) said that under terms of the contract, it will supply the army with a military-grade all-terrain vehicle called the MV700, as well as parts and accessories. The vehicle has been used to support missions in urban, rural, mountain and desert areas in Southwest Asia, the company said.
Uncle Sam wants Polaris ATVs

Polaris also said the contract will extend over three years, and is potentially valued at more than $16 million. The company said that deliveries will start before December 31, 2007.
Polaris also said that its relationship with U.S. military began in 2002 and has become a focus for new business for the company.
All that does seem strange--especially given the somewhat spotty reputation Polaris has with offroaders. BUT...what other manufacturer of ATVs is made in the USA and 100% North American content? Even if Uncle Sam wanted a Yamaha or Kawasaki quad the politicians would have a field day for bypassing an American company capable of supplying the same machine. _________________ _________________

The mv700 is not a quad, it is a single seat armored dune buggy. It is probably the platform that was used for the RZR.
There have been pictures of it on here, as well as articles in atv mags on it.

I'm not sure what armored buggy you are talking about but the mv700 is a quad. there ia also a mv500 and mv800 as well.

There is/was a single seat armored military buggy based on the Yamaha Grizzly, perhaps that what laymansm was thinking of. The military refers to it as the Prowler (NOT the Arctic Cat Prowler). The new version is a two seater based on the Rhino. Here's a couple of links:
My bad, there was an armored buggy tested by the military and made by Polaris. It was featured in dirt wheels mag. There where some pics of it posted here a while back.
I assumed this was the unit they were talking about.

In the video that was posted, was the $500 price tag on the truck before or after the comparison runs. That little track buggy looks pretty cool, but it has to be huge. It has a chevy engine in it...
