leenanj, what grease did you put back in the joint after you replaced the boot?

I caught the torn boot before I lost any grease so I did not take apart CV joint.

But the split boot kit came with a pack of CV grease, I would have used that if needed.

I will be going on a buggy run this memorial day weekend with the buggy club in Yerington, NV. Should put on 100 to 200 miles going through ghost towns and old mining camps.

Will see if this split boot hold up. These guys pack there own welders, maybe they can replace my boot on the fly. LOL

It should if you get the correct size diameter boot.

The 1100 is 1" x 2 7/8".

Jim,
Thanks for the info. I am heading out to the Mojave Desert this long weekend. I am going to Autozone today and grab the boot kit! Have you serviced the transmission yet? Replace filter or fluid?? What fluid is everyone using?

Britt,

I have an 800cc buggy and just replaced the trani. oil.
It calls for any 75W-80 or 90 weight oil. I went with the Valvoline 75W-90. The thicker the better. After my next trip I may switch to synthetic. It should be the same for the 1100 buggy also. Where do you go in Cal? City. I ride there often.

Ya what Joe said, I use synthetic Mobil 1 75/90 in the tranny.

Amsoil synthetic 10/40 extreme racing oil in engine.

Fram PH4967 or TG4967 oil filter

I am pretty much done with the dust and heat for riding this summer. I have a place at Oak Shores, lake Nacmiento. So we will be there this weekend and then riding Pismo until the end of Sept. I will try to post Pismo trips if anyone would like to hook up.

have fun be safe Joe Wink

Just a quick update on cv boots.

I put on about 200 miles on this memorial day weekend and the split cv boot held up great!

The right axle is about 21" and the left is 15" so the left pulls harder on the cv boot and I think the stock boot just may be a bit to small.

I also added some limit straps to the rear only for the noise the shocks make when fully extended. It was not really a problem but the straps will help protect the shocks.
