From the Crittenden Press website. http://www.the-press.com. Click on the weekly news link.

Terrible news from Paddys over the weekend. This is exactly why I won't be buying a 4-wheeler. My next purchase will either be another buggy or a Rhino, simply for the "roll cage". It isn't much, but it offers more protection than a 4-wheeler or motorcycle.

It also sounds like the cause of the accident could be a manufacturer defect.

Man dies in ATV wreck at Bluff
A 45-year-old Mt. Vernon, Ind., man was airlifted Saturday afternoon from Paddy's Bluff ATV Park after being injured in an all-terrain-vehicle accident. He died a few hours later at Evansville's Deaconess Hospital. According to the ATV park owners, Daniel Hawes was riding a new four-wheeler on flat ground when he apparently used the front brakes in an attempted to stop the vehicle. The brakes locked, flipping the ATV and ejecting the driver. Crittenden EMS responded to the scene and Hawes was taken by PHI Air Ambulance to Deaconess. The accident occurred about 3:30 p.m., at the ATV park near Dycusburg. Hawes died of apparent internal injuries at about 8:30 p.m., at the hospital.

Dang...

That is sad.. Does Paddys have EMS Staff or did they probably have to call it in.. Man, a helicopter had to come. I guess this is why they have liability waivers so they are not responsible for accidents.

The local Rescue Squad is always on call and ready to roll. They do a really good job for us here. They are just in town about 15 miles from the park. And, it only takes a few minutes for the chopper to get here from its home base.

You know......I try to impress upon my son that the things we do that are the most fun.........buggying, shooting, paintball, fishing way out in the ocean.....are fun because there is an element of danger there that you have to be aware of and that you always must remember to prepare for. Every time. Even then there are accidents. I hope this doesn't affect paddy's operations. I have such great memories of the place and hope to make it back one day. Be safe.

Man, that is really sad. Open caged vehicles are just so dangerous. I love them, but man.. anything can happen. Before this there was only one other death at Paddys, and it involved a Jeep I believe.

My wife is a nurse at a doctor's office - she is telling me at least weekly about a patient w/injuries from an ATV. A couple of years ago I still really wanted a dirt bike or a 4-wheeler. That's when I saw a Blade going in an Ebay auction. When she saw it, she wouldn't let me consider anything else - for myself, or the kids.
I think it would be great if there were more ads on radio & TV telling people about the much safer alternative that buggys offer.
Let's have a Buggy Parade across the U.S. to get the word out there!
