| Hey Bugspray That is bad news, and even effects me here in Texas. I haul heavy equipment to California quite abit and bought my buggy to take with me to play in your deserts... There is a Truckstop at exit 104 in Tonapah, and I have seen quads etc. in the river bottom near there. I had planned on bringing my buggy next trip. It is difficult to park a 70 foot long 18 wheel toyhauler in some places. I have aalso spotted some places near Quartzside. |
That river bottom is the Hassayumpa. Very popular. I average a run (about 30 miles) in my 4x4 every month, even in the summer. I normally started at what I call the north end (where my gallery pictures are) and go to the I10 bridge then head back. After my javelina hunt, I'm going to make the run for the first time in the buggies.
As you come through town, look at all the exits between Jackrabbit trail and Miller road. Then look at all the homes between there. We use to go play and shoot guns all the time on the north side of the freeway through there.
A few year ago, we voted on Prop 200 (I think this was it). It was to stop the expansion of building. Every company related to construction helped convince evryone that they might be jobless if we can't build anymore. Naturally, I saw it for being more homes and businesses I can potentially forever have as customers. I've been rethinking my position.
Something else that makes me mad is supposedly we have a lot of money left in the state budget, yet this past year, they auctioned off a bunch of State Trust Land. I believe Pulte Homes got most of it. This money is to help out the schools etc. So much for a budget. I want to help schools and education, but why not use this extra money left over for it instead of selling more of our land? I have an Aunt and Uncle who live in Sun City. Wheen I ws a teenager some 27 years go we would spend the whole summer out there. I got a job at Del Webb's nursury watering plants. There was a huge complex on bell road and I couldn't even find it last year when I went to visit them. There used to be a baseball field @ hwy 60 and the aqua frio river. I saw the first dune buggy beetle way back then and always wanted one!!!
That part of the country has grown so dang much.
I saw a lot of people as I drove over the river bridge on a Sunday a few weeks ago. I think I can park my Truck at the Big Truckstop. and find my way to the river. From that point all I can do is hope I don't get lost!!! I neeed to invest in somee better shocks and tires before I get that far out I really do not need to get stranded!
Once Again thanks for the info

Kidinme,
You had mentioned a guy in MD. is planing on opening a buggy park.
MD. is right next door to me. I'm in Warrenton, VA. It's about 30 minutes from Fairfax County.
Where and when did you think it will open?
Thanks

I have been wanting to get out there as well Turbo. I live in Surprise just west of Sun City. Only about 30min from the river bottom. looks like some good riding. I just haven't had time. My buggy has been sitting since mid Dec. _________________

I have been searching your post trying to figure out what mods and improvements i needd to make to my buggy before i actually get that far from the house. I got good tires, looking for shocks now. I see you went back to your 16.5 rollers, the same one you drilled out from stock?
I drilled my stocks out with a 9/16" drill bit and noticed a great difference. was fixing to go to 5/8" when 15 gram rollers came in. really gotta wind up the engine to move with these...
I still ain't figured out if i need to change the gearing yet. I have a spot I can climb8-10 foot up a 45degree bank with loos dirt and no problems... but no sand to play in around here.
Next time I head out that way maybe we will have a west coast mini buggy rally of our own. or at least a playday...

Yes, there are a lot of us out here now. We should try to put something informal together before summer. I didn't go back to the 16.5g. I have never taken them out yet. Hopefully Friday I will install the 15g sliders I bought. _________________

Ghost,
I'm sorry I didn't reply sooner. I forgot about this thread!
The riding area will be in Whiteford MD, just north of Belair or about 30 miles N of Baltimore.
He really wants this to be a big thing with refreshment stands, restrooms and all. You'll have to go thru their "Christian Store" on the way in and I believe he is going to require that "Customers" are like "father/son, brother/sister mother daughter etc. to insure the family atmosphere and promote safe, family fun.
He's a madman, doing several things at once but he's sticking to his story of this summer!
I will post it for sure!! _________________ -Tom-

yes I want some of them sliders too.
I was still wet behind the ears last time you had some. Waiting for indy cycle ranch to get some more...15 grram rollers were a big step up for me. I could feel the difference in my little riding area. I tryed the shimming but the 2.25 o.d. exhaust pipe I used was almost to thin. The spring slid over the top of the shim. I didn't think this was right so I removed. was I right the shim is to bunch the spring up behind it. is thre a different size O.D. shim needed???
Lafngas Keep me posted on any little gatherings ya'll might have planned. no need to go all out, just an informal chance to ride together, meet each other etc. Always more fun to ride with someone instead of alone...
