Hi everybody:

This is my first post but I've been reading your forum for a month now.

I have a problem that i hope you can help me.
I have a one month old sunl 150 slgkb that I replaced the cvt belt because the stock one broke. I used your forum to learn how to do it.

I replaced the cvt belt and i tried to start the engine without putting back the muffler. I did this because i wanted to check later if the belt was fine after starting it.

When I tried to start it, it tried to star but it sounded odd and it wont fully start. So I figured it was because it needed the muffler. I installed back the muffler, and now i just hear the starter go, the engine doesnt even tries to turn.

In my kart there are three ground cables that are conected to the cvt cover. I also disconected a hose from the exhaust and a another hose that goes on a clamp on the cvt cover.

Im not a mechanic, but I can follow diirections.

Any hel from you guys will be appreciated.

Heya rulas-

Just covering the basics here, but you hooked all those wires and hoses back up in their original places, right?

Fuel supply is turned on? (<--- this happened to me once. Took 1/2 hour and a LOT of cursing before I realized! Embarassed )

yes, all the wires and hoses are back on their places. The only thing I didn't remembered if two hoses that go below the cvt cover and placed in a little clamp were connected or disconnected. When I connect those hoses togheter and after I try to start the engine, if I disconnect them i hear like air coming out or sucking in.

About the fuel supply, I don't know how to shut it off, so im guessing is on because the buggy was runing fine, it just had the cvt belt broken.

Maybe it has to do with some vacumm line that wasn't connected when I did my first try starting the engine after replacing the belt but didn't had all the hoses connected.

Thank for your reply

one of those hoses goes to the intake manifold, there should be a port on the side of it, and the other one i have going to nothing.

maybe i can help i think my buggy is setup like yours but i'm not really understanding what you are meaning by fully start.
is the motor turning over but just won't start??????
the two hose's you are talking about
one is coming from valve cover that just slips down into a clamp on front of cvt cover. do not plug this hose off it is a vent for your engine.
the other hose coming into a clamp is for your carb bowel drain.
you should have a vacuum petcock when motor is not running it shuts off gas, with motor running vacuum opens diaphram and lets gas to carb.
the three black ground wires the big one for battery
the medium size is going into wiring harness and is a ground for rectifier regulator.the small wire is ground for you battery charger.
when checking a belt like you were going to do make sure the battery ground and rectifier ground are tighten down, could burn something up.

Quite the situation.

Starter goes but the engine doesn't turn over?

Correct?

Seems the engine would have to turn over if the starter is functioning properly. I'm not an expert either, but having replaced the clutch parts on my buggy a few times now, I fail to see how the symptoms you described could be related.

You said initially you started it without the exhaust but it didn't sound right?

I guess the things I would check would be the basics first. Confirm your hoses and wires. I'd check the oil also just to confirm nothing in it (like fuel) or debris (broken parts?).

I would install the exhaust to get everything back to running condition and try again.

We need more information on what the buggy is currently doing since it is hard to imagine the starter working but turning the motor over.

keep us posted!

david

If the engine doesn't turn over at all-did you remember the ground on the battery? Mine was connected to one of the bolts on the bottom of the cvt cover.

Thank you everybody for your replies.

Since I could not get the kart started with your suggestions, and since Im not a good mechanic, I took the kart to a repair shop and now is running fine.

The reason why it didn't start was because I didn't replaced the belt correctly. The mechanic told me that the belt wasn't placed correctly on the grooves and the rollers moved out of place. That was the reason why the engine didn't turn over and the starter did.

I followed instructions from posts on this and another site on how to replace the belt. I just don't know what i did wrong, but hey, that's how you learn, right?.

And since i couldn't start the buggy I forgot to ask you something?

I broke one fin in the variator fan, is that a big problem?, or could i just ride it like that for a while?

Thank you again for all the anwers.

PS. I still going to try to replace the belt next it brakes, i don't want to expend $70.00 each time it breaks.

rulas-

Can you post a picture of the broken variator fan?

Should your belt break again, (once you've got all the broken pieces out!) take off the variator side of the CVT and inspect inside the variator and make sure your rollers are all in the proper place and undamaged.

Put the variator back on, then the new belt, then the variator fan. As you're tightening the nut on the variator side, stop and rotate (cycle) the belt from time to time to keep it from pinching in there. Once you've started it up, the belt will settle into the right place.

Spare belts are always handy to keep around (reminds self to get one Embarassed )
