I bought a Hammerhead 250 yesterday and after riding it pretty much non-stop for about 8 hours yesterday and about the same today the belt broke.

I have remove the cover and found the broken belt. Also discover that the engine pulley was locked-up in what I call closed position ( high rpm position). The pieces behind it I think they are roller or sliders were out of place and some of them have bad flat spots.

I need to replace these. I would like more low-end torque but want to retain the top-end speed if possibly. I also realize that if I put it back together properly operating it will most likely have quite a bit more anyways since it was stuck in the top end position.

So where do I get these parts? Do I need to replace the spring on the driven pulley also to match the other parts if I do different than stock? Should I replace the clutch while I am in there anyways?

I have been told there is a couple dealers in my area but I don't know where. I live about 40 miles south of Kansas City. I think there is a dealer and parts in Independence, MO and Harrisonville, MO but I don't know the names of them.

Any help would be great thank you.

Usually when a belt breaks it will cause the rollers to become lodge in the variator. Many time when this occurs the rollers will become marred and will wear out prematurely. It is a good idea to replace them as you said. The stock weights for rollers are usually 24 grams.

If you want more response you can replace the rollers with lighter weights. I recommend a 17 gram slider. This will achieve a quicker variator response. In combination with the Torque(main) spring you will get better response on both acceleration and torque response.

Is you machine the dual speed Hammerhead?

I have these parts mentioned in stock and also a belt.

Glade

Glade will take good care of you Buggy83.

I've replaced my spring and installed sliders. If you need any help, just let me know.
