Does anyone ride in sugar sand? I'm going to be in Florida for Biketoberfest and I'm staying in the Ocala National Forrest at a buddies place. I have a Hammerhead 25ss with H/L and 2 sets of tires. Which ones will work best in sugar sand? 25" mudlites or 22" hole shots?
I think the mudlites are closer to a paddle tire, but the hole shots are smaller. I don't want to buy a set of paddle tires that I will only use twice a year so I want to use what I already have.
You're better off with less aggressive tires in sand otherwise you will be digging holes instead of going forward. I lose 25-33% of my power in soft sand with GY6 and even feel the difference with my 650cc, so you may be happier with the shorter tires. Way2Fast4U used run the Hole Shot tires on his Yerf with good results in the CA desert. However, you probably have a bigger surface patch with the taller tires so the aggressive tread may not be as much an issue.
Run your rear tires as low as you can with running on the rim or losing your bead. Although others also air down their front tires, I have had better luck keeping them hard so they provide least amount of drag. _________________ 08 Joyner SandViper 250
