How much performance would I lose if I went back to a stock exhaust because of "too much noise"? Once in awhile I have complainers in the area.
My exhaust now is not totally gutted, just drilled out a bit. It is definitely alot louder than stock. The performance mods I have done are the Uni filter, HP Cam, 9 gram rollers, HIT Clutch, 1500 rpm spring and a rejetted carb. I also have on the 39t sprocket.
Would I really lose that much with a stock exhaust? Are there performance exhausts that are just as quiet as stock? Thanks for any input. I forgot to mention my other performance mods are the iridium spark plug and the HP coil. _________________ Dune 150 : 39t sprocket, uni filter, cut out exhaust tip, drilled inside,145 rejet, stock tires front(changing soon) 22x10-10 carlisle on rear. 1500 rpm spring, 9.0 gram rollers. Its very difficult to give you a number or even a good guess on that one. Depends how restricted the stock one flows in comparison to gutted. You will lose power for sure especially because you have the intake taken care of. If you still had the factory air box you might not lose much power but because the intake is free flowing the stock muffler becomes a bigger restriction. _________________ Darren,

Too much power is almost enough!
whose complainin about your exhaust bro...point them out!!! we'll take care of it!!!
lol
If you go back to stock, you are gonna get crap performance... it will kill that awesome buggy dude...
I would recommend the east side pipe, but that just gives a lower tone, not quieter... it kinda gets rid of the raspy noise, but i am not sure if it is any quieter than a gutted pipe...
I got stopped the other day riding in some short trails by my house with my daughter. The cop was real cool he just said that a person in the area made a noise complaint.
The exhaust on the buggy is a bit loud at times especially when I rip across a field by my house. I don't want to lose any performance I really just want to find something that is a bit lower any not as loud. It would be a little better on the ears also. _________________ Dune 150 : 39t sprocket, uni filter, cut out exhaust tip, drilled inside,145 rejet, stock tires front(changing soon) 22x10-10 carlisle on rear. 1500 rpm spring, 9.0 gram rollers. Do you have a welder? I have heard of people using automotive mufflers and someone on here even used a tractor muffler a while back! The idea is that they have much larger passages, so there is low restriction - but the still keep things quiet. They will be larger so it would require some backyard engineering! Aftermarket car mufflers are pretty cheap from what I have seen.
No John, actually I think your buggy sounds alot quieter than mine.
You gutted yours and welded the original cap back on right. You didn't cut the small tube off if I remember correctly.
I drilled out the tube then drilled out the inside. Then I made a gasket and put a floor flange on the end with a tube screwed into it. Probably wasn't the best way but the performance is good. I might need to do it over again.
i love the way yours looks, and I bet you can easilyt quiet yours.... I have a twister pipe on my buggy now, and it doesnt flow enough... I am running a little rich, so I gotta either gut the twister pipe completely, or just go back to my old pipe...
As per yours, you could always try a pipe reducer!!!! lol... make a smaller outlet!!!! Or, worst case scenario... get a pipe cap that fits our tail piece there, and drill a crap load of holes in it and screw it over the end... That is what a real muffler would have!!! lol
