So I have a few more questions...
So with this spring will it increase the top speed/ or the hill climbing capabilities?
Also is this part fairly cheap?

If it isn't for increasing the top speed than could someone please point me in the right direction of what i will be needing?
Because as of now I think that I'm looking mainly for a higher top speed.

Sorry i'm just kind of new to this stuff.

Thanks

Put the spring on first...
You may be changing out the rear tires that may change your speed as well... Then if you need more speed, change out the sprocket on the axle.

You might not lose any top speed, but you should gain more torque/hillclimbing power. If you want more speed, and your buggy is stock, then you should do the basic UNI filter, re-jet the carb, and open up your exhaust some. I think you want some more horsepower, and this is the best way for you to get it without spending alot of money.

Adding to TeamHog... changing out the rear axel sprocket will make a big difference. If you want more speed, you'll need to find a smaller sprocket with fewer teeth then your stock one. The dealers mentioned, and this forum should be able to help.

If you do... make sure to check the chain length, and while your axel is off, take a good look at your wheel bearings. They're really cheap to replace, and are usually junk from stock. There's posts on here about that too.

I learned some hard lessons when I first started this hobby. While something is taken apart (axel, CVT, carburator, etc) check and double check all the components while your at it. Saves a lot of headache down the road.

BTW.. heavier sliders or rollers in the transmission variator will increase your speed also. lighter ones add power, but not speed. A good mix of speed and hill climbing power is a tricky combo to perfect. When you find it, let us know!

I think he'll be okay... We both end up at the same point we just get there different ways.

He should do what he can afford, when he can afford it.

to get the best speed out of the little 150, 23 or 24 inch rear tires, 21" fronts... 29tooth sprocket if at all possible on the rear... 12g rollers or maybe even 13g, free flowing exhaust, gut the heck out of it, and a free flowing filter like a K&N or UNI, and a carb re-jet... I am struggling with hill climbing in my region, as well as trying to get a top speed monster, but not happening with my combo... I have 9g rollers, and that limits my top speed tremendously... I bet if I went to 10's or even 11's, i'll hit high 45-49mph....

you can drop a cam in there for HP, and you can do all the mods I have like a 32mm carb, 30mm intake and riser, and 145 jet, and so on, and that will get you moving real nice... but it all depends on how much you want to spend on the 150 engine... I probably have close to 500 in just my top end of the engine (intake/carb/cam/filter/jet/fuel line/filter/riser/manifold), and so on... Overall, I bet i have over 1000 invested to get this thing reliable, consistent, and best of all, pwerful out of the box, and able to climb some serious hills... but I sacrificed things like top speed...

If I went to a 24" rear tire, i bet I could hit 45 pretty easy... It would take a while, and I wouldnt make it back up my steep street, but I could get moving pretty nice!!! lol

If you want to hit 50+ mph, it may not happen... You would be better off investing in either a bigger buggy, or just a bigger motor and consider a motor swap. If your funds are as limited as mine are now, do what everyone on here is saying...

Take a big drill bit or hole-saw drill bit, and drill out your exhaust... (remove chrome cap on end of exhaust, and drill out between the screws as much as you can)

Remove the stock air box completly, and the hose from the carb... Go to lowes of home cheapo with the hose, and find a piece of sink drain pipe (aka a tailpiece), and a rubber coupling to mate it up to your carb, with hose clamps... Then pm BigE, Doonrunr, Kidnme, or any of our really cool dealers on this site, and buy a performance air filter... most common is the UNI, and second is the K&N... then get some fuel main jets (122, 125, 128 and 130), and check out www.northeastbuggy.com for details on how to install some of those bad a$$ parts!!!!

Your total investment will be under 75 or close to it (each jet is about 5 bux, filters are different prices, pipe at lowes are 5-7 bux, coupling is only 2 bux, drilling is free, and you should be set... I highly recommend the 12g rollers for more speed without sacrificing too much bottom end...

Good luck!!!

john Very Happy
