After the first several times of riding the 400, we noticed that the heat from the exhaust pipe was getting unbearable. So, we bought some header wrap and it works great. Now, we can ride much longer and it is no where near as hot on your backside.
I wrapped the pipe on my Dazon, and it really helped keep the damaging exhaust heat away from the CVT area. If the belt can now stay cooler, it should last longer. The less belts I have to buy, the more money I can spend on other hobbies _________________ DRIVE IT LIKE YOU STOLE IT!!!!!!!!!

Where can you buy the exhaust wrap? Curiously, did the wrap change the tone of the exhaust at all? _________________ '07 Roketa 150cc

with the limited space i had to work with, it was 'stressfull'. but, not really that bad. if you can take the pipe off and do it, much easier. being old and fat does not help, either.
Also you can get the tape at Jegs, Summit Racing, or maybe Advance Auto. _________________ DRIVE IT LIKE YOU STOLE IT!!!!!!!!!

i first went to autozone. they wanted 50 buck for 50 ft. all they had. i used less then ten feet on mine. if you go with the 1 inch wrap, you will need a bit more. _________________ Owner, Bedo's GreenEcoTek

A few observations on the heat tape. The main thing I was immediately aware of was heat transfer to my back side. definitely a whole lot more comfortable. Those buggy with a bench style seat probably don't experience the heat blasts that come up from between split bucket seats. The motor ran much quieter with the noise insulating factor. The wrap removed all the harmonic vibration noise from the header. It has no effect on exhaust outlet sound. High end cylinder head temps were lowered slightly and the head cooled off at a faster rate- A real big plus! Performance gains would be hard to measure, but it definitely doesn't hurt and the motor seams to run tighter.
It's a touch costly , takes 15 ft to wrap an Eastwood pipe at a buck a foot for the close weave good stuff from JEGS. the wrap is Not real durable. In short time, it becomes a touch brittle. it can be broken loose by something striking the pipe. Retains moisture, pipe is going to rust up faster unless it is ceramic coated. Dirt and mud clings to the cloth ,making it hard to clean and the wrap can be broken loose by a high pressure wash. Once it breaks there is no real effective repair, just replace. It can be difficult to install properly unless the exhaust system is removed first. In spite of the down sides I really like the way the motor runs and sounds and I will keep using the stuff just for the heat transfer benefits alone but I am searching for some sort of exterior sealer to apply to the wrap after installation to help seal out dirt and water and to help it be a little more durable to trail abuse. _________________ 3206 yerf. too many mods to list. easier to list what has not been modified- seats and steering wheel. plus one set of kidinme's hand made special collectors edition fuzzy dice.
