ALSO...i just thought of this and hope that it might help lead me in the right direction...whenever going up hill or lodged on a rock or anything else that put extra stress on the engine it blows white smoke out the exhaust...its not a huge amount but its enought for me to notice it...i never really noticed any distinctive smell with it tho....thanks again...

i understand engine-117 i'm not saying the valves are your problem but they will have to be adjusted sooner or later.
all you have to do is pull passenger seat out, i always pull spark plug out to it makes it easier.
then take off valve cover 10mm wrench or socket.
then go back to fan shroud pull out inspection plug.
take a 14mm socket and turn motor over clockwise, turn motor over slow until you see the TF mark roll up,then when you see that you know you are close, then get yourself to were you can watch the cam marks and line them up,if you have to you can turn motor forwards or backwards a little to line them up.
9mm box end wrench to loosen jam nut then i use a 6'' cresson wrench to turn tappet the top adjustment is the intake valve set it at .003inch with feelers guage, hold tappet tighten jam nut back down, then check again to make sure nothing has moved.
then go to exhaust valve and do the same thing but set it at .005inch with feelers guage.
here are a few pictures of what i'm talking about they are really not hard to adjust just takes longer the first time.
just take your time and everything will go ok also don't forget to pull socket off of fan before starting it when you put everything back together and don't over tighten the valve cover bolts.
if you have run your buggy long i'm sure they could use an adjustment.
hope this helps you some

well ric i got the gasket the other day and had a little time to see if it would fit, wanted to adjust my valves anyway.
well as you said they are hard to come by but this gasket is so close to fitting. the best measurement i could get that it is a tiny bit over 2 1/8 inchs across. also i notice that 2 of the holes in gasket are bigger,is this normal???? also gasket thickness close as i could tell is .010 inch.
here are a couple more questions. i have notice by looking at some cylinder studs that the thread part is larger and once you get past the thread the reast of stud is turned down smaller until you get to the threads on block end.
here is my question with the head off is there enough give in the studs to bring them together enough to get gasket started over threads and once you get past the threads it will slide on with ease with no pressure on studs or gasket.i just thought i would ask this gasket is close.
here are a few pictures

On a Howhit GY6 there are guides in opposite corners to position the head - This is why the head gasket has two larger holes. The threaded part of the stud goes in to the case so there is a little room to adjust gasket position since the stud is narrower in the center.

thanks for the info pghruby.i don't know if what i was talking about will work,it was just a thought when i was checking it today and thought i would ask.do you remember if the cylinder studs would have enough give to try something like what i was talking about.or maybe i'm just beating a dead horse and it has already been tried.

also do you remember the thickness of the howhit head gasket.

I have not had my head apart for two years and did not take measurements when I did have it apart. As long as you can keep the piston opening clear, you can trim a little material around the holes so the gasket sits flat.

i had thought about that to, taking a small round or half round file and using that and lightly go around the stud holes making them bigger, if it comes down to that being that this gaskets is all tin or aluminum.of course like you said making sure it fits around the piston area good.
i guess i will find out in time when my rings are shot.this motor seems to run good and is a little torquie.i just hate have to replace a good engine because of worn rings.
