Somehow my wheel bearing froze up on one of the rear hubs. I took the hub of and the bearing fell to pieces. It looks like the race is frozen to the drive shaft.

I'm having trouble getting the drive shaft out. I know that when installing the shaft there is a ring that snaps over the groove in the spline. But no matter how hard I try, I cannot get that shaft out.

Any suggestions?

Wow! Looks identical to what happened to my hub bearing, I crossed these crap chinese bearings to some double sealed SKS bearings.

Sorry can't help you with your problem as I have the dual chain setup but like the CV's in most cars just takes a little grunt n' force.

Oh and btw make sure to double chk your rubber seals as the outers on mine where ok but the inner seal was too big on the inner diameter not seating against the shaft letting dirt, water, and mud in which caused the bearing failure to begin with.

Sorry to hear this. Didn't you just get that thing after being fed up with your other three buggies? Rotten luck. Anyway, there were some HH250 owners that were having the same problem. Try sending a PM to Steeda, he may be able to help. My understanding is that it's like a car's shaft, you just tug on it and it gets past that ring. Some of the techs recommend a pry bar on both sides. The car ones usually just pop right out. Sounds like it's alot harder on these buggies, though.

I wonder if this tool would help. You would need a slide hammer to use with it.

Yeah, i did just get this one a few weeks ago. I sold the other 3 b/c I got tired of fixing them. However, I knew that owning any toy like this would require some wrenching. I don't mind that. I just got tired of trying to keep 3 running. I don't mind mechanical failures, or breaks. I get most frustrated with no starts.

I finally got the shaft out. It was just a matter of forcing it. I've taken hundreds out of cars, and never had one as hard to get out as this one.

The bearings were basically welded to the shaft because of the heat generated. I'm gonna try to put it back together, but the shaft is pretty messed up. If it fails again, I guess I'm buying the shaft.

Carter brothers, in their infinite wisdom decided that because I'm the second owner, they would not warranty a mechanical failure on a $4,000 buggy with less than 20 hours on it. Nice.

Glad you got it out. What did you use/how did you do it? Just pry on it hard enough?

The reason I ask, is that I've had a bearing noise on the rear of my HH250 that I've been nursing with grease. I'll have some noise, then grease it up and it goes away for a while. I've been putting off replacing the bearings after reading what some people have had to go through to get the shaft out.

Thanks.

The suspension and various other parts have considerably shorter warranty periods, but that is definitely supposed to be transferable. I'm on the road, but I'll be home this weekend and pore over my warranty paperwork. I could be wrong......but it was certainly one of the selling points for getting this buggy.

I called them yesterday and asked the war dept if the war was transferrable, and they said flatly, no.

Seems like a cop-out.
