Well I finally got some time to rip into it last night and I figure out why I don't have reverse anymore.

Off a 2007 Titan II Plus 250cc I was coasting down a hill when I hit a large rut that jerked the buggy off centre enough that I reached down to the grab rail near the shifter and knocked the shifter back. So like you would imagine it went into reverse with the usual clunk, pop, bang all at the same time. The buggy continued to work so I thought nothing of it until I tried to reverse and nothing. The engine just revved away with no backward movement.

I tore apart the gear box as I slowly pulled apart the two halves; washers, gears, and little broken teeth started falling out. I'm pretty sure I was able to reconstruct the way the gears mesh in there and observe the acutation of the shift fork and the gear that lost teeth I believe joins the drive gear to the reverse gear; only thing is that gear is stationary. Im not sure if the gear is supposed to be static or if maybe it froze up causing the teeth to shred off. Im lost in this issue!

Im hoping someone with experience with this gear box can help in this matter and I'm going to try and find out if I can get the broken piece replaced or if I have to put out 350$ large for another gear box (ouch) kinda steep.

A close look at the gear and mount its on; the gear doesn't spin or come off. I think it's fixed on there.

Broken teeth. I don't know where this ball bearing came from I check the boxes bearing and all seem intact. It maybe a check ball, IDK.

If 350 bones is your issue, then shell it out my friend! In this case, I would do it. I hate gears and trannys and the work that goes with them. It is obvious you grenaded it. OR...live without reverse. Personally I couldn't do that.

I am pretty sure that gear is supposed to move. It should never just lock in... It acts as a secondary to engage the reverse, as the reverse is only engaged when the fork forces the small gear to contact both gears...

That ball seems small enough to be a bearing of some type... maybe it is lost in the box??? any other parts come out?

I would hold off on spending the cash if you can help it... these boxes are not worth 350 is one reverse accident destroyed it... I also grenaded a reverse gear off my dune 150, and it was a mess... It is a bass akwards design, but I had to buy another unit due to the amount of damage I caused to the planetary and center drive gears... Your slooks reparible, if they sell components... the teeth dont look half bad on the large gears... clean out that box really, really, really good in a parts washer, and go over everything with a fine tooth comb...

Good luck, hope you can find parts!!!

I agree that it looks very repairable as that gear is the only damaged piece, and no nothing else fell out of it but whats pictured. The other two bearings are intact so still clueless as to what it is and something esle that bugs me is that all the other gears look good and new except the one that broke. That one looks like its been through hell burnt up to crap.

Any hoo Im calling AB Powersports to see if they sell the parts out of these boxes so as not to invest in another new one. Hey geek if you can part with the working gear in your extra make me an offer! Or a reasonable offer on the extra gear box.
