Anyone done any mods to the BMS 1100 4 seat buggy?

Looking for some info on making more F & R suspension travel, upgrade shocks, Lowering engine in the frame, Upgrade seat belts to higher quality, Turbo & intercooler, etc.

I just got mine last week and am having a ball with it but definitely have the desire to make it more dune worthy. Definitely down in the power dept. It also bottoms out pretty easily with 4 people in it.

Any one have a source for engine parts?

Looking for head, valves, camshaft, head and engine gaskets, Pistons (high compression)(If I go non turbo) etc.

Also, what are good aftermarket rims for this buggy? Need a set for paddle tires.

I found a good source for turbo stuff and am going to fabricate my own system.

How about the OBD-II conector? My dealer told me that you can access the fuel mapping and make adjustments thru the OBD-II, any Ideas in this dept?

I realize this is alot of questions, so any info will be appreciated!

Thanks,

BK

Nobody here running this buggy???

I have found a few things in the last week that are worth mentioning...

1. throw away the stock K&N type air filter (garbage) I took it off and found a lot of dirt in the throttle body, so I re oiled it and tried it again only to find it full of dirt again in 15 mi.

I replaced it with a 2 stage uni foam filter and this is working 100% more effectively in stopping the dirt from entering the engine.

2. Adjust the valves after 100 mi. I was under the valve cover anyway to retorque the head bolts and found that the valves werent adjusted properly. .007" is the specified clearance for the in and ex.

3. The OBD-II port is not recognised by my programmer so I will need to dig deeper to this issue. I have been told the the ecu needs to be switched to a different mode to achieve top performance from the engine.

4. Change the radiator cap from STD 0.9bar cap to Honda CBR600 1.1bar cap. This helps the boilover problem tremendously. No more spewing out the radiator catch tank every 5 min.

More as I find issues to address.

BK

I have an electronics guru who has been helping me with fuel mapping on my 1000cc engine. He changes a resistor and by doing that is able to increase the fuel flow up or down. I am not sure exactly how to do it , but it really woke up my engine. As far as aftermarket performance engine parts there arnt any. Some of the guys on this sight have shaved the head to raise compression, and ported and polished the intake. Also I think mick sent his cam to have it reground. But that is about it. Turbo is the way to go. You can create your own system pretty cheaply and we have had good sucess with about 8lbs of boost. At that boost you can run premium gas out of the pump with out any additives or special fuel. I have heard of people going as high as 32 lbs of boost with out toasting the engine, so they seem to be pretty durable. You will be surprised how much you will get with just the basics such as free flow filter and header, along with shaving the head. Let us know how it goes.

P.S. Scott at unleaqshed motorsports in AZ is a great turbo guy if you want to buy a turbo set-up. There are some on this sight who act as though they are experts but are very suspect in the info they provide so be careful. good luck

Some OBD-II ports are active only when the engine is running or if an additional jumper is added to the wiring harness going to the computer.

On my pre-ODB Mazda engine, there was a contact that had to be grounded to put the computer into diagnostic mode. It would turn the dash indicators into diagnostic readouts and the stalk controls interfaced to the computer.

MXWRENCH, where did you get your torque specs for the valves, head bolts etc? I've looked and cant find a manual for the hh465q-2e motor. I think I will go milder @ first and just do the air filter and header(have to scrap the CAT). Just wonder if the stock EFI will compensate correctly for the additional air flow? Rolling Eyes
