Hey from Austin!

I have a Dune 150, bought used, and need a new front A-arm (dang trees). Not long ago (maybe six months) I bought some replacement parts from Baja Motorsports and had no problem. Now their site shows no buggy parts, and after reading some horror stories about Baja I'm thinking talking to them will be a waste of time.

Anybody had success getting Baja parts? I need at least one upper A-arm (right and left are same). I'm also considering making, or having made, the parts instead. Anybody done this? Interested in making another set?

FYI, the rod ends (heim joints) on the A-arms are a weak point. I have replaced several of the joints, including the upper and lower 'ball' joints, with better rod ends: 1/2-20 thread, which is a tad bigger than the 12mm, and the finer thread pitch is stronger too.

The reason I need a new A-arm is, I was trying to remove the old ball joint, and it would not budge. Heated it with a torch, tons of PBlaster, but no dice. Broke the ball joint of course, but even with the busted stub in a vise, the threads were locked up tight. I would recommend re-assembling your ball joints with a little anti-seize next time they're apart.

Let me know if you have any info on susp. parts for a Dune 150!

c.

check out my thread: http://www.buggynews.com/topic9670.html?highlight=dune%20150%20suspension %20woes

I made some major repairs to my front end, utilizing the original arms, but I do kmow for a fact, you can purchase the same parts for your Dune from Baja, just have to call...

The same exact parts with the beefier ball joints are available through Tomberlin, under the Punisher II... it is the exact same buggy as the Dune 150, just with better components.

You can call toberlin up directly and ask for a parts manual for the punisher 2, and get all the parts you need, already beefed up, including gusseted control arms, 14mm ball joints, and 10mm tire rod ends!!! all much better than the Dune parts...

cc rider,

I too have a Dune 150. I get most of the manufacture replacement parts from Tomberlin. They make 3 buggies that are really the same thing different name. the crossfire 150 is the exact same kart, the crossfire 150R has a better and stronger front end(this is what I replaced mine with) and the the punisher II, is pretty much the same also.

Call Lori from Tomberlin at 877-855-0196, she is really easy to work with and they are pretty fairly priced too.

You should replace those ball joints with the 14mm ones from the CF150R. They are alot stonger.

You should also post your location in your profile and add some photos of your buggy, we would love to see it.

good luck with the project and I cant wait to see some pix!!!!

I deal with Dana at Tomberlin... She has got to be their best employee. She NEVER fails to help me out in every thing I need, and I only own half a Tomberlin product!!!

lol

I am in the process of making a monster crossfire 150R, minus the 150 part!! lol... If you buy parts for the Punisher 2, they are exactly the same as the Dune 150 parts, only the beefier stuff... the corssfire 150 is 2 inches thinner than the sune on the front end, and their control arms are very simular, but not the same...

Reinforce your shock mounts on the lower A-arms, if not those rock hard shocks will rip off the thin gauge steel. Also Arctic Cat front shocks and Yamaha Blaster shock will make a huge difference in ride quality, it's in my top three for investment/return mods. I haven't upgraded the ball joints yet (dumb) but I've snapped a few, and bent the rest. lol

Greg,
Where did you end up picking up those arctic cat shocks?
I have been looking everywhere and I cant find any for less than 300 bucks.

Ebay. I looked for a while, mabye a month. With shipping it came just short of $130. I never switched the springs to a heavier rate, however I'm 5'6 165-170lbs , and ride the Dune solo. The springs that came with them give a nice soft ride. Now if your 200lbs+ you would want stiffer springs. I wish the Jonyer's front shocks were as soft as the Dune.

GMAN,
Thanks for the info. I just asked again on the other post so go ahead and ignore it.

I have been looking and cant find any. I already have a brand new set of springs for them and everything.

May just break down and buy a new set from AC, but they are 130 each, plus shipping. Sad
