Can anyone give me step by step instructions for adjusting valves on a 650 Sand Spider? 25 years ago I adjusted the valves on my toyota , but have not done it since then. I need a refresher course if anyone can help. I need the clearences and what to do to get the engine to TDC.
Thanks,
Clint

pull the spark plugs pull the valve cover. The no. 1 cylinder is the one closest to the altanator. Turn the engine over clockwise use a socket on crank pulley. As your turning the engine over watch for the intake valve to depress then look down at the timing pulley when you come up on the first big line where it says 0 you are at tdc. I then turn the engine on the intake valve until im on the back side of the cam lobe. the manual says 5 thou. i find 6 or even 7thou works better. Repeat the process on all rocker arms , double check all adj. Put it back together your ready to rip.

Just recieve the overhaul manual, specifications, and price list from tuk tuk amer. Very imformative 10 times the info than the thunder manual. They showing valve adj. intake .06 thou exhaust .10 thou makes more sense to me. Adjusting both int.& ex. the same makes no sense since the ex. gets so much hotter. Another thing i noticed is their showing two diff. tranmissions. The lower geared one part no.lj276mt-2, 1 gear 4 to 1,2nd 2.8 third 1.8 forth 1.0257 This might be the answer for people that what better crawling. Not sure if ratios are the same as the commando.Of coarse no price, next time i talk to roy ill ask. They are also showing a high flo carb at 428.00 i dont think its as good as the weber , esp with stock manifold but who nows. For those who don't know tuk tuk is a three wheel buggy taxi cab made in indonisia, now sold in amer. using cherry 650 ingine. Ghosthunter

Another little trick to finding TDC. Insert a drinking straw into the spark plug hole. Watch the straw as you manually turn the engine. Top dead center is when the staw is fartherest out of the hole and then starts to descend.
