I am new at this and trying to learn. My kart a 150cc was running fine, but recently I took a trip to higher elevation place and the kart lost power. It would idle fine but just did not have any power. I had someone work on it to get it to back t o normal. Long story short the kart did not work. Now I am back to my home and the kart does not start. I disconnect the fuel line from the valve below the gas tank and the gas does not seem to flow. Can someone that owns a 150cc kart send me some pictures of the carb fuel and vacuum lines since I am afraid they might have been switched around. Along the same not does any one know if the elevation can cause a kart to loose power and if so what can be done to correct the problem. Any help is greatly appreciated.
Depending on the make of kart you have all that I have run into have a vacume diaphram valve, that is you have two lines that come off the valve one goes to the intake where it gets the vacume to open the fuel valve therefore fuel will not flow without vacume to this line. To check just pull the line from the intake and pull the fuel line off the carb than suck on the vacume line and the fuel should flow. The bottom nipple is vacume and the top is fuel. When sucking on the vacume line you should be able to hear the valve move and there will be a resistance. If it seems like your sucking thru a straw than the diaphram has a hole in it and needs to be replaced. If the diaphram seems to be working but no fuel comes out the filter in the tank may be plugged. To clean you will have to pull the fuel valve. TOM _________________ GUNNUT

Okay, here's the deal. I did just as you instructed and the flow of gas was immediate. I hook up the gas line and the kart ran for a little while until it used the gas on the line then it shut off. I sucked on the vacume line again and gas flowed but it also came out of the vacume line. I suppose that the diaphram has a small leak. Do you have a diagram of the vacume lines to compare with my kart and make sure that the lines were not switched around.
On your regulator the bottom nipple is the vacume and the top is the fuel. From what you had stated " Fuel comes from the vacume line" tells me that you have a bad regulator.I do stock these,if interested call me at 662-301-1563 or e-mail me at sycarms@bellsouth.net or you can private message me however sometimes it could be a couple days before I receive the PM TOM _________________ GUNNUT

franky going up on elevation will make a difference in how it runs, depending on how high you went.
just a couple of weeks ago i went from 1,450 feet to 2,750 feet
both my buggy and folks rhino was running rich, air is thinner up higher and this day the humidity was bad to,
after we got almost back down to are riding elevation they both smoothed out and run good again. for us its just something we have to deal with its either up or down here

I guess that did it for my kart. We were about 2500 ft also and it started to loose power. I am back to my home and the problem seems to have followed and it seems that the gasoline valve has gone bad. I wonder if there is something that can be done prior to going to a higher elevation to keep the kart from loosing power. thanks for the replies.

franky when you get that bad vacuum petcock switched out i think you will find out that was your biggest problem, you was taking gas down the vacuum line to and it was running really rich.
what is your normal riding elevation, from what i have read and experienced i went up about a 1000ft before i started to notice i was running a little rich with my jetting.

The elevation where I live is about 100 ft and the place we visited was about 2500 ft. I was told that some atvs and go karts loose power at higher elevation, but when I arrived home the problem persisted and come to find out that the problem is the petcock. I am planing on going back on another trip and dont know if I'll take the kart next time. I am not sure if the problem will persist.
When you talk about running a little rich do you mean losing a lot of power or just slightly, cause my kart lost about 75% power.

no nothing like what you are talking about my buggy just got a little sluggish and wasn't idling the best and also could smell the exhaust that it was getting rich.
you and tom figure out your problem with the petcock i just mentioned this because you ask if elevation could effect your performance.when you get your new petcock on i would take her back up and ride like the wind
