Well my week old buggy has its first issue. The starter is stuck on. I had to disconnect the battery to make it stop. With the engine running you can hear it buzzing and when you turn the ignition off it just sits there trying to start over and over again. Even holding the engine kill switch keeps the starter going. Is this a bad ignition coil or switch? Do I just need to replace it or is it something more sinister?

UPDATE:

I tapped on it a bit and rehooked up the battery. It started and acted fine for a few starts and now is completely dead, no activity at all from the starter. Im assuming the starter is bad or the starter relay. I just cant figure out how to get the SOB off the dang thing and cant even open the electrical box. Is that box screwed shut or are the tabs just really tight?

Very frustrating only a couple hours and a few starts on this buggy.

go to forum index scroll down until you find service manual mini buggy go there and down load the talon 150 manual, that will help you when working on your buggy.
on the electrical box cover it is held on by to small bolts that go through lid with a 10mm wrench size nut on bottom the top is a allen wrench head but you can use a flat screw driver to hold it if you don't have metric allen wrench's.thats the way mine is held on and looks like yours.
check fuse in electrical box to make sure it hasn't blown.
before pulling starter off i would check solenoid first. take a short piece of wire strip ends back and jump across the 2 big wires on solenoid and see if it does any thing.
also have your switch to on position so if it turns over it will start if it starts pull wire off solenoid or starter will keep running.
just a guess but it could be a bad starter solenoid.
not trying to be nosey and i know it is a holiday but have you tried to get a hold of your dealer.i don't know how your warranty is but i wouldn't want to tell you to do anything that might void it, meaning trying things or turning wrenchs on it with out there say so.

I think it's a bad solenoid.
1) disconnect the battery
2) with a voltmeter set on the CONTINUITY or 200 Ohms setting, measure across both the screw terminals. It should not be conducting. If it is the solenoid is STUCK and bad.

or with a 12v test probe.
1) have the battery connected
2) test both screw terminals. You should have 12v on the battery side, but 0 on the starter side.

I agree with Rick, starters dont go out very often, but solenoids do

Hey guys.

Thanks for the replies, unfortunatley since its a holiday weekend my dealer is closed. I ordered it through menintools.com so Im guessing even if they send me a new part Im stuck putting it on. I checked all the connections in the electrical box and everything was fine including the fuse.

I dont have a voltmeter so Ill have to go get one Monday, IM 60 miles outside of the nearest town. Where is the solenoid located on the starter? Im guessing to see it I neeed to remove my aire box?

Really thanks for the help Im so frustrated that it has croaked on me so soon.

its in the electrical box. it will have a fat red wire from the battery and another going to the starter. two smaller wires connecting to the harness.

you can take a screw driver and put across the big terminals of the solenoid to see if it will spin over. have the key on when you do this

here is a picture of inside electrical box like BIGE said you can jump across it with screw driver or a peice of wire.
turn switch on, if it starts and everyting thing is ok put cover back on electrical box and ride you will just have to start it that way until you get a new one.then maybe your weekend won't be shot and you can have a little fun.

Man you guys are awesome. Thats what it was a bad solenoid. I feel like a dope for not figuring that out. I can work on tractors all day but for some reason this buggy makes me nervous.

Im definitely going to Lowes Monday and going on a shopping spree for some tools for this thing.

Just for reference menintools.com were awesome. I called them right up they said they would ship the solenoid Monday and a new key switch just incase. And since Im in Texas theyre getting it sent right from Hammerhead.

Thanks again guys, now my kiddo can drive the buggy in our little parade for the Volunteer Fire Department.
