2007+ HH250 Slider question

Hello, this is my first post. This is a great site and I’m glad I found it. It definitely helped me in deciding on my first buggy.

I picked up a 07 HH250 a few weeks ago and have to say my kids and I have been having a blast with it. We live near the mountains and have found several trails that we hit just about every day. All in all it climbs pretty well in low, but I have found myself having to back down a few hills here and there that we just couldn’t make. I read about replacing the rollers in the CVT with sliders for better climbing capability, but am curious if this applies just as well to the 07+ models that already have a low gear that the previous models didn’t have. Has anyone out there with a 07+ model replaced the rollers and seen a decent climbing improvement? Also, is there major benefit with going with an entire variator kit as opposed to just replacing the rollers with sliders in the stock setup? One last question, which slider weight would you guys recommend? I don’t care about losing a little top end to get the best climbing capability I can get.

"X", I'm not sold on sliders, however it's the weight of the roller/ sliders that improve your climbing ability. The lighter weights allows your engine to rev at higher rpms before shifting into a higher gear, thus accessing torque your cart already has. I have a Joyner SV 250, with the Cfmoto hi/lo, and tried the 15g sliders. The climbing was great, I felt the biggest benefit was the better climbing in high gear, allowing you to access your top end. The low gear was even better, as far as climbing goes. That said the rpms were quite annoying to me with the 15g's. Right now I'm experimenting with an 18/15 combo (16.5 avg) Because I'm not happy with either, nor the 60 bucks I spent on them. So my advice is to experiment with less expensive rollers. That's just my opinion. I have a clutch in route (Glade from Edgepowersport) said it should be here thursday. If that's the case I'll let you know the results of this mod. Almost forgot change or shim your clutch spring .

I like rollers myself, I find they react quicker than sliders. you could go with a set of 18 gram rollers. they will help climbing but not keep the engine at a real high rpm.

another option is a set of 21 gram sliders. that would be the equivilet to 18-19 gram rollers. change the main spring to the white mallossi or the blue polinni will help also

The stock rollers should be about 21-24 grams. I install 15-18 gram sliders in place of the rollers. I prefer the sliders over the rollers for their longevity and mobility in the variator track. Sliders also lose less top end when installed.

This mod creates better acceleration but as stated above by GMANLV, it does raise the rpms at which you machine operates. The engine always seems to be in the higher rpms But that creates a faster upshift. This is not necessarily bad because the lighter weights keep the machine in the higher rpm band and that is good when you are climbing.

If you install the main spring in the clutch this helps the machine downshift faster and you get more torque in situations when you need it (sand, mud and climbing) This is why it is sometimes called a torque spring.

The 2 mods together will greatly increase your climbing abilty.

I have a 2007 HH250ss and installed 17gram sliders. I've been pretty happy with them so far. My buggy will climb a wall in low gear, not so much in high. When I'm racing in High gear in Need more bottom end to pull me through tight corners, that's why I will be trying some even lighter ones.

I have the same set up as ATL Top Dog and in lo my HH250 will climb whatever you put in front of it. The tires make a big difference. The stock tires wouldn't dig in very well.

This is My experience with mods using 17 and 19 gm sliders, and the blue polini clutch spring,,, on our 250 Sahara's.

The 17's gave me a lot of torque, and in higher revs for most of the time,,, we have a track with a lot of tight turns and very thick black sand,,, slippery as hell,,, anyways the extra torque was fantastic,,

I then changed both our buggys over to the 19 gm sliders, with a noticible drop in revs required to get the buggys moving,,, the torque was much the same,, nothing too noticable for me anyways!

I am not sure what the stock roller weights were on these machines when I brought them new, but I would really like to know how to tell,, as I may try a 21 gm slider,,, just to see the difference in torque,,,
Can anyone tell me,, do you just weigh them and thats it???

The reason I want to try a 21gm is our track is getting too many woopdedoos on it from the extra torque,, and we cant go as quick as we would like ,,, as in flat out ha ha

Anyways along with the clutch spring these sliders n spring changes really arked em up !

So far my best set up has been the drilled rollers (4.1 oz on post office scale 19.3 avg), shimmed torque spring 5/16"., with uni and 137.5 main jet. I'm definitely changing back to rollers. Just waiting for my clutch to see if I'm going to go heavier or lighter than the 19.3 drilled rollers.

Quick question my white torque spring fits very snug on the sleeve, is this normal?

the white main spring does fit snug on the sleeve. I have it on my 250 also and it does fine.
