I'm curios about the top speed of other gy6 powered buggies on this site. I realize that some of you have geared yours to climb mountains, but please post anyway. Im trying to get a feeling of which mods seems to effect top speed the most so that I make sure that I have them. If you could, when you reply, state; your buggy, your modifications, and your top speed. Also, if you can state the amount of time it takes you to reach this top speed it would be great.

I don't have acceleration time but it's pretty slow. I have not had a speed run to date with my current mods, but previously, with a huge carb jetted properly, 9gram sliders destroyed my top speed. 9g sliders, 1500lb spring and a 32mm carb only yielded a 27mph top speed... I went to 12g sliders and gained almost 4 mph, bringing it to 31, and then I went back to rollers and gained even more!!!! I think I am hitting close to 40 now... If not, it is really, really close...
Really, I was thinking the rollers would make a difference. I am currently hitting 43 in my Blade with 9 gram rollers. So would you say 12 would be good or should I go higher?
Edit: I'm actually unsure of the exact weight of the rollers. They are either 9 or 10 gram rollers for sure though because those are the only ones I have ordered.....
The Dune 150 does 35-37mph (gps) in a approx. 1/4 mile strecth. The MRP clutch, $59 shaved about 70 yds and added 1-2 mph. The difference was evident soon as a pulled out of my driveway. On the dirt, there is a place I ride, and one spot you come down a 15-20' hill into 2 whoops one to the left and one to the right, as you climb out of the valley. These whoops are staggered, so you have to slow down having a solid axle, rear swing arm. However the climb runs you perpendicular to a 50' hill which you must make a hair pin turn on to the path up the hill or go over the side into some buggy busting terrain. The first time iI tried it with my new clutch I did a 180 degree power slide, that took took me by suprise, in an oh sh1t kinda way. I'm waitng for my clutch for the Joyner 250 as I type.

The way my buggy is setup now my top speed is about 33 mph. I get to about 28mph fairly quickly, maybe 10 seconds. After that it is a slow climb to top speed. I am running 9 gram rollers and the rest of the CVT is stock. I changed the internal gearing in the transmission from a 17/36 combo to 13/40. I also have gutted the stock exhaust, did the Uni/Redneck intake and rejetted accordingly (128 jet) and I have a Bando HP coil. The coil didn't add any performance, I just needed to replace mine and the Bando was cheaper as well as higher quality than a stock replacement.
When my buggy was stock it would do about 45 on flat land. After replacing the stock rollers with 9's or 10's (don't remember which I tried first now) and installing the 1500 clutch spring along with the Uni and gutted exhaust my top speed stayed the same but I got there a bit quicker and the engine was turning more RPM's at speed.

for me my buggy never was a 40 mph buggy stock,around 38 mph. the only thing that hurt my top speed was the 39 tooth sprocket.its been a while since checked top speed on black top
with vehicle side by side. also since then open exhaust up a little more and went from a 122 jet to a 125 jet so i might have gained some, not sure.
33mph was pretty easy to get, really crowding the motor to get to 35mph.
not sure how long it takes to get to top speed but the slider gets me there faster then the 9.5 roller did that i originally went with.
for me i like this set up i can cruise easy at 30mph,i have way more speed then i can use in the woods on trails and got pretty good hill climbing ability.
the sprocket slowed me down and the torque spring and sliders just increased my rpms,just like what spool said.

After all my mods I now go about 27mph on flat ground. with all my mods i get around 32 in like 10 -15 seconds but the motor is really screaming. then i changed my springs in the rear clutch and smoked it (to much power?). i am verry happy with the big bore and cam it really woke the motor up. _________________ baja dune 150

Buggy: American Sportworks 7150 / very similar to Twister GT200 mechanically. 149.6cc rated 9.9hp, 16 tooth output gear, 32 tooth axle gear, 21" tires (on the small side).
Mods: 10g rollers, 115mm Prodigy teflon variator, 1500 main spring, stock clutch, stock pillow springs, 130 main jet, UNI 2" filter on 10" long red-neck intake, mobil1 in the crank case.
Based on the read out of the built in digital speedometer, with myself and my 12 yo son in it, on our paved road: 39mph in less then 1/4 mile of run room and it got there fast. It probably would have gone faster if the road didn't bend.
Adding tomorrow: Iridium plug, "hotter" coil, drilled out Twister performance exhaust - right after I fix the no-start issue with the new stator and regulator. _________________ American Sportworks 7150 & Lance Charger 150 --:The Other Buggies:-- "Um yes, these are modified, why?"
