If there is no power to the switch, you will need to trace the wire back through the frame harness to the engine harness. If you have power at the engine harness, you will need to look for damage or string a new wire. If there is nothing at the engine harness connector, you don't have much wiring left to trace back to the source.

Just an idea.

If you have changed the stator and the regulator and the lights are still not working, why dont you just run a new wire off of the regulator to the switch for you lights. That is only about 6' of wire and not that hard to run then you will have a nice new wire and should have your lights working. As a test connect the wire at the regulator and temp run to switch to see if lights are working correctly.

As for the original wire.. You might have a spot in the wire were the wire was stretched, the wires broke, but the outside coating didn't. So you would not be able to see the spot that is bad. I had this happen to me on a Honda 300 four wheeler. It took me about two weeks to figure out the issue.
