Hey, I was thinking of using 22" tires on my go kart. I had started sketching it out on graph paper so I could get an idea of how big this kart will be. With the 22" tires mounted to the kart (no rear wheels yet), the overall length of the kart comes to 7.5 ft long (90 inches). I was talking to a buddy and mentioned the 22" tires and he said those are pretty big. I didn't think anything of it. I just got home and was looking at my 17" rims I have sitting here (for my Camaro) and they seem like they would be a big size for the kart. So is 22" too big of a size? I know anything can be made to work, but is 22" reasonable? The tires I used for mock up in my sketch are 22x10. In their current location on the sketch it gives the front track a distance of 45" (3.75ft). Is that a reasonable distance, or should it be wider/narrower?

I am sorry if this seems a big vague. I can post up a picture if need be. I am trying to get as much of this planned out before starting so I don't have to do any improvising.

22x11x10 is the most common tire size for a buggy. are you concerned with height or width?

I am not too concerned with height or width, I would just want to be able to drive it on trails that quads a bikes can go on you know? I am not trying to build something the length of a sand rail or have the articulation of a massive 4-wheeler.

I am very new to the buggy/karting world, so you will have to be kind haha.

BTW, what is the difference between buggy and go kart?

A go kart is typically limited to golf kart terrain and uses an industrial or lawn mower engine.
