Does anybody know what could cause this problem? My buggy is a carter eagle talon 150. It will take off alow like the brake is in it but when you shift into reverse it acts fine. Then when you reshift into forward it goes better but when you hit top speed it dies down to like 10-20 mph. I checked the varitor rollers like the tech support at carter said am they are all in place could this be the drive clutch or something else. I really want to get this fixed its been almost a year since i had a good ride . Thamks for any help.

Run the buggy on jack stands with the CVT cover off and watch the CVT pulleys. The front one should make the belt ride higher as RPMs increase and the rear should ride lower at faster RPMs. If this doesn't work, you still have CVT trouble. Let us know what you find and we will troubleshoot from there.

also with the engine off check to see how far down in the clutch pulley the belt is. should only be about 1/8 inch down.

Ok guys i put everything together again and put it on jack stands it looked fine. Tested it out on takeoffs and such worked good my moms yard isnt enough to open it up so i have to test it here at my house to make sure its ok on top end and not losing speed it it does what could it be? could one of the clutch springs be weak when its under a load? Once again thanks guys for your help.

jekennon are you sure it is in the clutch or gearing
does it roll freely idling or shut off? rear brake pads aren't to tight are they.
also what about air leaks, electrical or gas issues all these will cause you not to get to top speed
some time these things will fool you its happened to me before.
does your motor go flat sort of before reaching top speed?
