I have a Carter Talon GSX150IIR, and live quite a ways from my parts source, so I'm trying to put together a shopping list without getting ripped off.
Right now it's all stock parts, so I already have a new new clutch and 10g rollers on order to help with these mountain hills. But I'm also ordering a UNI filter, and redneck it myself. The main reason I'm doing this is to replace the pathetic air-box that came from china. Any added power would just be a bonus. But do I really need to rejet if I'm not changing the exhaust?
Second question... and I hope it doesn't sound too dumb, but what the h*** is a CDI, what does it do, what's the benefit to an upgrade, and is it enough of an upgrade to add it to my list?
This forum rocks... thanks to EVERYONE for all the info on here.
If you let in more air, you need to add more fuel to keep the mixture in balance. If you are at higher elevations, you will not need as big a jet as someone at sea level. If you let us know the elvations you will be operating your buggy, we can give you a range of jets to get back into balance.
The CDI (Capacitive Discharge Ignition) is your spark timing advance circuit. The high performance CDI does two things:
1. Removes or moves up the rev limit to 9500 RPM
2. Changes the advance delay curve in the lower RPMs _________________ 08 Joyner SandViper 250

That'd be awesome... I'm sitting around 4500 feet in the back yard, and my trails go from 3000ft up to 6000ft... and higher if I can get there. No more then 6500 though. After that it's all alpine cliff and rock. Quite a range, I know. Do you think the stock exhaust will do if I'm upgrading the intake? Or should I upgrade that as well?
on the jets I recomend getting a few. ranging from 125,132,132.5,135. then get a couple of cheap spark plugs so you can get a good reading. that way you will know if you are running lean or rich _________________ Blade buggies,Carter buggy's, ams (manco) , joyner, parts for almost anything

How about a new performance CDI? I'm still trying to wrap my head around what exactly this thing does, but I was told it could possibly lift my max RPM up to 9000 or more. That sounds too good to be true... is it?
most performance cdi units will raise the rpm limit. do you have a tach on it now? _________________ Blade buggies,Carter buggy's, ams (manco) , joyner, parts for almost anything

If you decide to replace or modify the exhaust, you should do so before rejetting the carb. I think you will need a 120 or 122.5 jet with intake only upgrade and 125, 127.5 or 130 jet for both upgrades due to your elevation. _________________ 08 Joyner SandViper 250
