OK so I am a new buggy owner and have had no problem changing the engine oil and the gear box oil, however now I am stumped.......
My buggy is a 2007 Hammerhead 250SS. I have read for hours on this forum about the need to change the CVT oil on these machines. I pulled the CVT cover off but do not see where to drain or fill the case. I read a previous post that Bill had posted a manual photo and a real photo of a CVT drain and fill plugs but mine looks nothing like it. Can anyone chime in for my year of buggy and help me understand? What am I missing?
there's no oil in the cvt. Did you get an owners manual?
There is a place to check/change the gear oil. Can you post a picture of the cvt side of the kart? I bet there'll be a 250 owner chime in soon. _________________ Steele's Powersports

The owners manual is a joke, nothing about gear box or CVT in it. Hell it even said the engine takes 1.25 PINTS of motor oil, it is actually 1.25 quarts. Needless to say the owners manual is useless.
I did locate the fill and drain plug for the gear box which I have already changed the fluids in.
The reason I am fixated on the CVT is that there is a post on this board from two years ago where they talk about changing the oil in the CVT and that there are three totally different places to check/change the oil...... The motor, gear box, and CVT.
There is no oil in the CVT. Oil in there would make for a very unfun buggy.
The only oil/gear oil to change is the motor oil and the gear box oil. It sounds like you've found it but in case you didn't, the gear oil drain plug is on the underside in the back, pretty close to the rear sprocket. The fill plug is on the right side right by the chain. You just fill it up until it comes out that hole there and then put the plug back in. You'll need to have some kind of hose to get it filled. I used the hose that came with a bottle of Slime. I run synthetic gear oil back there. I run a synthetic motor oil as well - after break in.
Here's a link to the manual from the Hammerhead official site. I printed this off and put it in a binder. You can also go to the service manual section and print off the CN250 manual which will give you more detail about the engine and carb - keeping in mind it is a scooter manual - but most stuff about the engine/carb is the same.
Perfect! I am not mechanically savy but I am a fast learner. Like I said before I have changed out the gear box oil and put in Mobile Synthetic 75-90 gear oil. I just bought a hand pump to fill the box.
I must have been confused about the CVT having oil to change because of other people being confused on previous posts. I think some people were refering to the gear box oil as the CVT and the other way around.
The confusion may be that you have to get into the CVT to change the gear oil, as on mine, the gear oil drain and fill bolts are around the clutch, under the CVT cover. _________________ Spyder 250 (KTR-250W, or GK-29)

Aaaaaaaaaahhhhh yes I bet you are right, so it is I that is the dumb rear end all along. Thanks so much for clearing all this up. I feel a lot better knowing that there is only two places that need oil service and not three. Thanks guys!!!
