| < Maintenance and Repairs - Mini Buggy ~ I Need Your Help!! I Hit A Stump With My Carter Talon!! |
Well, last weekend I was moving along pretty good through a trail on my Carter Talon 150 when I accidentally hit a small stump that I didn't see in time. The force of the impact was enough to pop the whole front end of the buggy up. Now my steer tires point outward in opposite directions! I thought at first that I had just bent the mount for the swing arm (or what ever it's called), but on closer inspection I fear I may have warped the entire frame because the gaurd over the headlight seems to have moved down on one side and broken the headlight pot.
I really need your help with this one guys! Have I totally screwed my poor buggy, or is there hope? Any suggestions on what I should do? _________________ 2007 Carter Talon GSR 150 2R

I can guarantee that you bent the strut on the side that hit the stump. you'll have to eyeball/measure the undamaged side and compare it to the other side to see what moved. Look for popped/blistered paint, a sure sign of a bend. Check the floorboard along side the frame rails. you will probably find bends there as well. When you try to beat everything back into place work from the least damaged area back towards the most damaged area. The idea is to "reverse" the impact. Most of your tire alignment issue will be fixed with a new strut. (I'm assuming you hit the stump with the tire and not just the a-arm or frame) _________________ 05 Jehm Adventure Buggy 250cc, Torque Spring, 22.5gr Rollers, Modified Roll Cage, K&N, 21x7x10 & 22x11x10 Trac Star Radials, Vapor, Body Panels, 40T Spkt

Ya, I did hit it with the tire. I'll try to get a few pictures today out in the sunlight so you can get a good look. Any idea how much a new strut costs?
Thanks for the help so far guys! _________________ 2007 Carter Talon GSR 150 2R

They were 60 or 80 bucks for mine. You would think that I would remember since I did it twice last year! Drivers side both times. _________________ 05 Jehm Adventure Buggy 250cc, Torque Spring, 22.5gr Rollers, Modified Roll Cage, K&N, 21x7x10 & 22x11x10 Trac Star Radials, Vapor, Body Panels, 40T Spkt

I have modified all my struts. I wleded peices of steel from the tie rod mount to the strut. Cheap, and highly recomended! _________________ (2) Talon FX 150 2R's Stock

my wife did the same exact thing. I just replaced the strut and readjusted the steering and back on the trails we went. I can't remember how much though. _________________ 2007 carter talon gsx150 r2
