| < Maintenance and Repairs - Mini Buggy ~ GTR axle break |

Sheared off the live axle on an early 250 gtr yesterday. I talked with carter and they said the differential axle is beefyer as are the cv's. They suggested I upgrade. Has anyone noticed a perforomance hit with the differential axle and CV's or should I stay with the live axle? I've broke 4 CV's and now the axle so leaning towards the change. Just want to make sure I don't lose perfromance.
If I do make the change will doing some perfromance mods offset what I loose going with the differential?
Glade--I'm ready to order some parts-you still around?

Youll get stuck more and have a wheel slip when climbing, ive got a brand new diff sitting in garage but when i found out the down side i didnt change it.Diff up side less front tire wear.

Well, I honestly have to say, I think the downside has been overplayed. Granted, my buggy came with the differential, so I have no comparison to live axle, but I cannot stress this more clearly---My buggy climbs hills that I have seen no other buggy even attempt. I'm talking steep climbs of several hundred feet. I've never gotten stuck anywhere except deep soft sand and a live axle wouldn't have helped that. It was caused by the tires.
I routinely take my buggy thru some pretty hectic scenarios and have yet to see any instance where the differential has caused me to get stuck. I'm sure there are scenarios where the problem would exist, but I also think GTR owners need to understand that we have a very unique buggy in this class. It puts out significantly more power and torque than it's counterparts.
An added bonus to the differential---I can turn in MUCH tighter spaces than live axle GTRs. _________________ Carter Brothers gtr 300

I had the chance to drive both the live and diff axle.
On my GTR (an early one too) I have the diff.
Just as Firebird says, I have yet to get stuck because of it.
And I drive some pretty muddy and slippery terrain in winter.
In summer that turns to very loose sand and dust. No problem either.
Keep in mind the GTR is also one of the widest buggies.
Live axle is fine when it's in one piece and narrow like on quads. But on 63" independent suspension it puts to much strain on the joints (as is known for GTR's).
In my oppinion the upside far outweighs the downside (which I honestly haven't seen yet). Turning is better (a lot better), less strain on joints, tires and hubs.
Haven't broken anything in my drive train yet.
And it has over 4000 miles on it, enduring a lot more power than stock.
