The weather finally cleared up enough to make the first trip to Little Sahara in Utah. These are a few photos and clips from Easter weekend.

Wow!!!! A set of paddles and a turbo are apparently a good combination, huh? They sound like they're running really strong, especially for being at 6K feet. That Chery engine is a great little powerplant for these smaller buggies, and it seems to be pretty bullet-proof so far. I just changed the oil in mine and it hadn't used a drop. We'll either be at LS or St. Anthony the week of May 12th, so I'll try to post some pics and video for a stock vs. turbo comparison.

Where did you get the paddles for the blue one? It looks like it does a little better than the purple one, having fewer paddles per tire. The purple one has some really aggresive paddles; are they too much? I'm really close to breaking down and buying a full set of tires. I should probably just do it with dune season here already.

The blue buggy is running 9-paddle ScatTrac Extremes that are about 9 inches wide with a 24 inch diameter. The purple buggy is running Sand Tires Unlimited Sand Blaster 26 tires with 16 #2 paddles that are 12 inches wide and 26 inches in diameter. On the Easter trip the ScatTrac's were not enough paddles and the STU's were a little too much.

We went out to Sand Mountain again on the 26th of April and the sand was much dryer - on that trip, the STU's were perfect. 45MPH up the face! The blue buggy spent alot of time bouncing off the rev limiter - plenty of power but not enough traction. In a side by side climbing race the purple buggy would walk away from the blue buggy because of the increased traction and the 10% higher gear ratio due to the larger diameter paddles.

I think the best paddle for a non-turbo 1100 would be the ITP Dune Star - it has ten paddles and only costs about $100 each at RockymountainATVMC.com. WEST_COAST uses them on his turbo 800 and says they're great.

I'll get some videos going up the face next trip.

Yeah, I was looking at the dune stars and some 27x9x12 AMS front ribs. It looks like we'll be down at LS the week of the 12th, but probably not with sand tires unless I come into some unexpected $$$$. Thanks for the information on the paddles, though.

Trying to find that elusive middle ground paddle tire!
Something in-between the two would probably be the best all around paddle for the sand at Little Sahara.

I think the Blue one looks faster as well, must be the driver! Rolling Eyes

Why don't you trim some of the paddles off of yours? It's fairly easy to do, and you might find that middle ground.

I considered shaving a little off the paddles after the Easter trip, but at the last trip the buggy was climbing the face at 45MPH in second gear with the rpm staying between 5500 and 6000 - about perfect. I don't think I want to mess that up.

I still have the 9-paddles and a new set of 10-paddle ITP Dune Stars I could switch to if the sand is wet or too sticky.

I'll let you know how the Dune Stars work after the next trip (probably Memorial day).

Nice vid JAXN , looks like my 800 would run rite along side your buggies " power wise " wish fuel was not so high and I would try to come down there and tear around with your crew.

Later W.C.
