Cheaper is not always better, especially when it comes to winches. There are a million chinese perm-magnet motor winches on the market for very cheap. Many will fail when you need them most.
If you ride alone and are going to rely on this winch to bail you out spend the cash on a quality item. At the very least take some time to try and waterproof it. The solenoids are usually the first to go on these things, try to waterproof the box they are in as much as possible.
Cannot agree more, however, winch failure is also because of where they are mounted. Low up front in the most vunerable position for mud/water etc.
Still not bought my buggy yet, making sure I do all my research first, but I am designing my mods.
What I am planning to do with winch is to weld a 2" or 1 1/4" receiver to front and rear of buggy. Weld male part of receiver to Winch mounting plate. I will then be able to mount the winch on front or rear when I need it. This will also enable me to mount recovery shackles, tow balls or other standard receiver accessories.
To carry the winch I am planning to mount a 3rd receiver on the back of the rear rack, where the winch can be carried up high out of harms way.
This is where this (although cheap) winch has the advantage of coming with integrated mounting plate and fairlead and wireless controller. The only extra you need at the receivers is power. No moving or control leads.
OK Team Hog, the door is wide open for you once more
Waiting on your newest "Winch Pic"

what a buzzkill
your probably right,I tested it out yesterday and it didnt pull very well, didnt pull as good as the cheaper harbor freight winch I had on there before, going to test it one more time with a different battery to see if it makes a difference,if it doesnt I'm taking it back _________________ roketa gk-19 250 cc,15 gram sliders and clutch spring from glade,36 tooth sprocket from tractor supply, unifilter with redneck intake, drpulley hit clutch from tnegg,50 watt amp and speakers from blade powersports
Wireless winches are very handy but I always caution people to install a power switch to the receiver. This might not be so easy on this integrated assembly. Hopefully you can cut or disconnect the power to the wireless receiver or from the receiver to the contactor relay. The reason is this: If the receiver were to malfunction and the winch starts up on its own you will probably not be able to see it in the usual location on the buggy nose. If it retracts you can ruin the fairlead, snap the cable or strip the gears. The motor can stall and overheat & start a fire--remember it's connected by a very large wire directly to the battery. If the hook is attached to the buggy frame it will damage the frame. If the cable plays out there's the chance that you could snag it on something on the trail (or drive over it/wrap around the axle) and cause the buggy to stop/flip/whip around and cause damage & injury.
The chance of any of this drops to about nil if you have a switch on the electronics.
And this risk (although minimal) also exists on regular winches with rocker or toggle switches. Sometimes the switch gets dirty and sticks. There's not much you can do except run for tools or wire cutters if this happens. Adding a redundant (waterproof!) power switch is cheap insurance.
Sorry to sound so negative. Winches are great and I've installed one on every offroad toy I've owned and use them often. The HF wireless winch is a great bargain. _________________ _________________
