I was at my buddies shop on sat. and he just got a coolster 250 cc single seat kart in! WOW let me say that this kart w/ no upgrades is one of the nicest rides i've ridden. I would recommend this kart to anyone looking for a single seat! I think i'll have to get me one!!!!
How are the brakes on this kart? I have the two seater version and the brakes don't really hold the kart. You know it's funny you asked After I took it out he asked me what I thought about it and I told him that the only thing that seemed to be off was the braking system. He brought it back in and we made a few adjustments and swapped out the brake fluid and it stopped great after that. As for the e brake it did not seem to be a problem. Kart could have come with more gauges too..
I am curious what adjustments you made to the brakes. I have already replaced the master cylinder and brake fluid. I checked each caliper and the back ones seem to hold better than the fronts after I sanded the glazing off the rotors. The e brake doesn't hold at all. I have tried tightening up on cable and really hasn't done anything. The contraption that is used to apply pressure to the rear disks just doesn't work. First thing we did was to take every thing off and lube it there was no lube any where to be found all the parts were very stiff. Next the pin for the master cylinder was very cheap cotter pin with alot of play so we replaced that with an AMERICAN cotter pin NO MORE SLOP. Next we took a grinding wheel and went over each side of the rotor in a cross hatch pattern. alittle 60 grit to the pads. put it all back together add some good fluid and bleed the system and that was that.
Well I spent a couple of hours taking each caliper apart, sanding each pad and rotor. Rebleeding all calipers, starting from back. No change at all. Brakes to very little but slow the kart down a bit. Thank goodness there are no big hills or cliffs where we ride or we would be goners. The parking brake doesn't hold at all. Garbage design. I adjusted them as much as possible. The pasds just don't hold this heavy kart. I think the same is true of the main brakes. Just not big enough calipers for it. I called and spoke to a tech directly at coolster and he concurred they don't really hold. The only thing he wanted to do though is sell me new brakes pads. I explained the kart has only seen about 2 months of light use. No resolve. Any other ideas on my brake dilemma? No. This is actually the third master cylinder. There is good strong oil flow from each caliper when bleeding (no air). This wasn't the case with the last two. Maybe your brake lines are cheap, and there swelling up
when you apply pressure to the brake, because most
of these buggys have the same brake components on

No swelling or leaks evident on brake lines. I've checked these a few times. If you pump the brakes a couple of times they hold a bit.
