Pghruby; Your Yerf ball joints look good, but not as easy to incorporate into strut as plan we had layed out at local machine shop. Wish a could have taken pic of it, will have several new ball joints in by Mon, but shop has the only one I could get in town. It was a desent plan, But...
I know Jacksters looks very tough, solid stud out top of extended length strut -into an A-arm mounted ball joint, might be the best alternative yet. Seems this makes sense towards better wear, and stability, & I see where this would be an easy machining project if I could find the joint. Im all over this Mon. (meetings tommorrow), A Heim Joint design? Mounting tho, w/out harming joint Question Confused

If you are referring to CKau's post of using Heims on the Yerf-Dog, it would also work but require modification of the a-arm and strut.

Not looking to go to complete redesign here, use my existing struts & mod the top joint, make strut a bit longer, & slight Mod to existing A-arms.
Waiting to hear back from Jackster as to extra length of his struts (w/this measurement, I could still proceed with our original plan for larger automotive style ball joint fabricated into the top of my strut-while only having to increase A-arm hole size to accept 14mm ball joint threads).
But,
Quote:
My A-arms have a somekind ball joint welded into them.
I suspect they used somekind of spherical bearing for it.
I'll take some better pics too... we'll find it...

would love to see a better veiw of the joint his GTR incorporated into his A-arms & the stud mt at top of his strut...

Hi TF,
Just measured my struts. They are 17" also!!!

Strange I actually saw mine beside an original strut when I ordered my buggy. With the Carter importer telling that 'this' was going to be done to all delivered vehicles. They where about 2" shorter. Maybe Carter incorporated the length it into their struts. Who knows, I see new or different bits on every GTR.

Anyway... seems your length is OK.
On the other bits... I think I cracked it... Very Happy
Took the whole assembly off and measured each individual component.
But to much data to explain in writing...
I'm making a 1:1 scale tech drawing for it (almost ready)
Worth waiting for... I promisse (the pics too)

My thoughts exactly... doesn't look like a standard off the shelve bearing. Measurements are a bit strange too.

Ball is 28,5mm, ring(bronze) is 32mm (most are 30 or 35), ring height is 15mm. All not standard sizes, at least not for metric spherical bearings.

With the bronze ring and high working angle (app. 15 degrees) I thought, hey.... this isn't a spherical bearing...
Looks more like a bushing and ball out of a rod end. I pretty sure it is... makes sense... rod end work under larger angles than most spherical bearings do.

That will make it much easier to find.

Jackster

What about something like this?http://store.summitracing.com/partdetail.asp?part=afc-20035

Weld this on http://www.stockcarproducts.com/susp7.htm

I have no idea of the dimensions but I imagine they are available in different sizes.
