My headlights just stopped working, both at the same time, tonight. What provides these power? They are the type that get brighter the faster you drive. What could have shorted out and now needs to be replaced?

hello profaci are buggys must be related Laughing me and my dog were going to take a little ride last night and mine wouldn't work either. not that good at anything and worse at electrical stuff Laughing i have mine going again here is what you can try.first check fuse in electrical box see if its ok. if ok go to light switch if your is like mine there should be a white wire and blue wire. the white wire is the one with the power buggy has to be running to check it, i just used a test light to do this.unplug it while running at idle it should be dim,if there is power there it might be switch or a bad ground on lights.if no power like i had go back to the rectifier regulator at power box and check the wires there mine were just loose and one corroded.
red wire has power on it all the time,
black is ground
yellow and white not sure which one charges battery and which one runs lights but check all them for good connection and no corrosion
remember buggy must be running to check them white and yellow will be dim at idle.rev motor test light get brighter
like i said not good at electrical stuff but its a start on trouble shooting.

Thanks pud. good to hear from you again. I'll check the connections tomorrow. Hope it is a simple loose wire. On a different topic, since you have the "same" buggy (I know you have done many more mods then I have), I notice a lot of vibration from the GY6 at the low end, just getting rolling up to 5mph. At higher speeds the engine is very smooth. What could be causing this vibration? Could it have something to do with the cvt and the weights I changed last year?

good to here from you to profaci
yes it could be in the cvt first thing that comes to mind with me would be some belt dust built up on the rollers, i wouldn't think you have run the new rollers long enough to have flat spots already.
how does it shift when you come to a stop and take off it doesn't feel like you are taking off in high gear does it, like the belt hasn't come back down the variator.

Other than the vibration noise at the low end the it seems to be running normal. Decent low end torque and great top end speed. The vibration noise has me concerned though. I really don't have many hours at all on the new rollers. Put them in at the end of the season last year. Maybe have an hour on them total so far. What should I check. I would hate to take apart the cvt again for no good reason.

i don't know what to tell you on that profaci. i have had the problems with rollers and even my sliders i'm running now getting gummed up with belt dust and causing them to act up and get some vibration on take off and when looking into it, it would be all it was.
also on the noise some of it wouldn't be a that annoying plastic electrical box cover would it. get a few thing like that vibrating with a little engine vibration and it will make you think you have more problems than you have.
maybe some others will read this and give some of there thoughts on this.

OK. Here is what I found on the lights. No power to the switch. Power at the connector to the rectifier. Same as battery. With kart running no power to the lights and also no power going back to the battery. Should be up to around 14volts with it running. At least on my other kart it is. Does this mean I need a new rectifier? I am now on to dismantle the cvt (joy) to check on the vibration noise issue. Let me know if you think it is the rectifier or not so I can order the part if you concur.

The yellow and white wires going to the regulator should be providing AC voltage from the stator. If you have no AC here, you have a bad ground or burned up stator. To verify the stator coils are OK, measure the resistance of the wires according to the service manual.

Service Manual! Very funny, I have a SUNL. So just to be clear, as I don't claim to be a mechanic, if I remove the connector from the voltage regulator the red wire should show 12 volts, what should the white/yellow wires show (14 volts?). This I assume is with the buggy running (obviously)? If it is in fact a bad stator, how big of a deal is the replacement? Where is it? Under the flywheel/fan? Any special tools needed? So have we ruled out the voltage regulator?

profaci i really thought all you would find was loose or corroded wires at the rectifier regulator not making good contact.
i know your motor is still new to basically and i guess i'm just stub urn i still think it is a bad connection some where
you did check the fuse in the electrical box and check these wires, the ones coming from the stator plugging in the electrical box they say some times when plugging them together the connectors push out and not make contact.
just some thing to look at to.
i learn from these things to
also what did you find in your cvt that was causing the problem.
