I just pulled this information off of Wolflake1's web site. We may want to chime in on this!
The public Hearing on HB 4323 is Wednesday, April 16 2008 at 1:00 pm at the Farnam Building, Lansing, Michigan. Any questions you may have, contact Dick Ranny, Cooordinator, MMRC @ 989-469-2405
If you are in favor or not in favor of allowing ORV's and ATV's to ride on the shoulders of the Counties roads please email the county clerk and the Lake County commissioners and let them know. Their email is clerk@co.lake.mi.us . Also email Senator Patty Birkholtz and tell her you are in favor or not in favor of HB 4323 to allow ORV and ATV's to ride on the shoulders of the counties roads. senpbirkholz@senate.michigan.gov . Give them your name and address and a return email. And if possible do this on a weekly basis. the people that don't want it to pass are going through the effort to stop it, so we need to put up an effort to get this passed. Tell your family and friends to do the same and we can make a difference.
For those that don't know most of the trails in the UP of Michigan have access to county roads to travel from trail to trail. They have been trying to get the same thing done for the trails in Lake County but have been running into blockage by the county commission that is still in the frame of mind that all ATV's are distructive and dangerous. Maybe if we can get enough riders to write they'll take a more serious look at granting access to these roads.
You could virtually connect about 250 miles of ATV Trails/Routes by being able to legally travel a few mile on the shoulder of county roads.
Thanks for the Help

Hi Jerry and thank you for taking the time to do this. Most people just sit and complain that they can't ride where they used to and don't do anything to add to where we can ride. thank you for your effort. I'll chime in and say it's the greatest thing ever to be able to ride the shoulder of a road to get from one trail to another. It helps extend your ride--without having to backtrack. It helps if you get lost. It helps if you find your trail blocked (possibly by a tree hugger!) And it helps to to get gas when the option is a very long, but legal, walk _________________ _________________

I'll just make Jerry's post a little easier to email the commissioners and Senator Birkholz

A question for anyone who might know: Why is Senator Birkholtz taking the lead on this issue? Her district is in the southern half of the state and isn't affected at all by this bill. _________________ _________________

Your guess is as good as mine, Tim (Wolflake1) might be able to answer that he's been dealing with this issue for a while. I'm just hoping we can everybody to write these people and get them to change their way of thinking. It would be great to operate like the snowmobilers.

You are right Jerry. Also if everyone could take a minute to call their senator and tell them how you feel. All districts have to call, even the southern counties. Here is their phone numbers. This passed the house of representatives with a vote of 107 to 0 over a year ago and the senate has been sitting on it ever since. Michigan needs a boost and so does Lake County, which is the poorest county in the state, and I believe Michigan maybe the poorest state now. (Thank you Jenny) So why not do this and help the economy?

Please find your Senator on the list and give them a polite call, you want dates on both the public hearing and the committee vote of HB 4323. Call regular until you get a satisfactory answer. Always give your full name and address. Contact any ORV users you know in Eaton, Allegan and Barry counties and have them politely contact Senator Birkholz and let her know, they want to see HB 4323 passed as presented from the House. Hand written letters, phone calls or e-mails. Again, give your address.
Those of you in Southeastern Michigan and other metro areas of Michigan, your involvement is a must to get this Bill passed! Districts 1-27 of the 38 Michigan Senate Districts are in Wayne, Macomb, Oakland, Lapeer and Genesee counties. Districts 22-23 are Shiawassee, Livingston and Ingham counties. Kent county has both 28-29. Takes 20 votes to pass, but first, we must get a hearing and a passing vote in the Senate Natural Resources and Environmental Affairs Committee.
Your efforts can make it all happen! _________________ Wolf Lake Motel & Resort & ATV Rentals is a full service Lakeside Resort located one mile from the Little Manistee, Lincoln Hills, Little O and Tin Cup trails in Lake County, Michigan. We offer ATV and Boating Packages.
I wish U all luck in your mission !! Dont think that your Senate commiteee much cares what a guy in Washington State has to say about this, but U guys sure have my support !! Similar measures have tryed; & often failed here in the Pacific NW. Push towards good old fashioned common sense w/your senators & Reps., (what would U have us do, while still being able to use trail system). Causes such as this often fail due to A Few Bad Apples, & over Liability issues !! One solution if your measure fails, is Liability waivers.
You 3 cant get this done alone, unit the... Buggiers, 4 wheeler groups, snowmobilers, dirt bikers, even the horsey crowd, often even the hikers share some of the opinions you need. _________________ Team Farm...
