Hey guys, i was wondering how hard it would be to swap my 150cc GY6 engine in my 125 talon. About 9 months ago i replaced my belt, and my rollers with sliders, so i stared it up and it flew like stink. About after 30 min of riding the engine shut off and it came to a grinding hault. If i try to turn it on it wont start, but will make a grinding noise. Ive been pretty busy in the past 9 months and havent found time to fix it, so i was thinking of putting a new engine in it so i dont have to fix it as much and just to have a new engine. So my question again is, would it be hard to do? Would the gears and electrical mess me up?

Thx.

Most of the Talons that were sold as 125's were actually 150's that were labeled wrong so you probably already have a 150. In any case it would be and easy swap since the only differnece between the 125 and the 150 is the cylinder and piston.

I'd have to look at it again, but it may be a direct bolt on depending on which GY6 you end up getting.

Does your current cart of reverse?
I'd look at the GY6 engines with the internal FNR.
Shouldn't be too tough.

Keep us posted and if you do start the swap, take a lot of picutres.

Yeah it does have foward and reverse, its possible to take the f/r gears out. I know becouse i had to replace the cable. Im pretty sure its a direct bolt on, here is a link that has pictures of the exact gokart i have. http://images.google.com/imgres?imgurl=http://www.familygokarts.com/image s/talons/gx150_2r_back_view.jpg&imgrefurl=http://www.familygokarts.com/main.php%3Fhtml Page%3Dgx150_2r_talon&h=521&w=694&sz=132&hl=en&start=12&um=1&t bnid=jNzuCmoK8AX52M:&tbnh=104&tbnw=139&prev=/images%3Fq%3Dgx150%26um%3D1%26hl% 3Den%26sa%3DX

If anyone has done a swap, could you give me some pointers and the problems you have had with swaping the engines.

And ill be sure to post pics if i do decide to swap it out Wink

You could just get a 155cc kit and put on it. it would be a cylinder, piston , and rings. make it a 155 instead of a 150.

that would be easier

And it wouldn't require any block work, right?
That's just a direct replacement/bolt-on.

With some good effort you could have it done in a day.

it would depend on the damage done though. (the scraping noise).
mine died and stoped with a scraping noise because of a valve breaking and busting a hole threw the top of my piston.
i had to split the cases and clean the pieces of the dead piston out, and when i went to install my big bore kit, i found out that the head it came with was shorter than the one that was on it, thus making my cam chain to long!
the tensioner didn't tighten it enough either.

i am looking for a shorter gy6 chain (a normal one in every one else's case, as mine is an e-ton gy6 with a big head for some reason) that will make it the right length for me.

you may not have this problem, but it all depends on the damage, and thats what ive experienced.

Sounds like your stock head might be the same as the ones that come on the Dazon 150's. If so you may want to consider reusing it if possible. They flow a lot better and produce more power.
