What is the best clutch (In Your Opinion)?

if I rember right a few years ago people were getting the mrp clutch and not much better. and there were about 2 or 3 differant ones

I'll tell you what. I have 3, stock, Koso, and a Dr. Pully and have tested all three. Shhh

I like the stock one the best. That is just me. I also don't ride the dunes either, if I did I am sure I would have different thoughts.

I have the MRP Yellow clutch that they supposedly developed just for the buggies. I don't like it. The stock clutch performed much better even when it was so worn that the pads were almost completely gone. I think a lot of the problem with the MRP clutch is the stiffer springs that raise the engagement point. Yes they give you a higher RPM launch, but it's really not a big help. The problem is when you ride a lot of long steep hills and you are bogging the motor down to the point where the clutch starts to slip. In that situation the same springs that raise the engagement hurt your performance because they also let the clutch begin to slip at a higher RPM.

The other problem with the MRP clutch is that the pads and bell (I'm still using the stock bell) seem to glaze over really quickly. After a couple of hard rides, I have to take a piece of emery cloth to the pads and bell and remove the glaze. Otherwise it will start slipping like crazy. I never had to do this with the stock clutch.

JABO you say you prefer the stock even over the DR Pulley. I think thats the first time I've seen someone say that. Most people seem to really like that clutch. Do you feel the stock one performs better? Or is it that the Dr. Pulley doesn't make enough difference to justify the high cost?

Now I am confused. I don't know whether to get the complete stock clutch assembly for $80 or the Prodigy clutch and clutch bell for like $140 or so. I just don't know what to do!

I don't have much time on the Dr. Pulley clutch. I tried it once and broke a belt, probably just a coincidence, then I put the stock one back in. I do hear good things about it, I just don't have much time to try it out where I normally ride. Sorry to confuse you.

I have the Dr.Pully Hit clutch and love it.I have tried the mrp and it was not as good as the koso I tried.I thought the stock Blade was better than any of them but the Hit.I run my buggy really hard and the Hit does all I want.Have not played with the springs any yet but the way it came is better than any one I have used.I use the hit bell also.James

I run hit clutches in my 2 carts. I have a slightly used mrp clutch for a 150 carter I would take 20 bucks plus shipping for it. I know it works well on the carter but not near as good as the dr pulley. get ahold of me if you want it.

You know, the clutch topic always iterests me because the oppinions can be so varied... I run my Koso like crazy and no problems, in fact, we have over 300 hours on the clutch and the belt so go figure! The full lockup ability of the HIT has intrigued me since the beginning, But my oppinion is that you need to have some engine mods before you go that way. If the clutch doesnt slip at all then the power is drawn straight for the engine with 0 ability to gain a bit from slipping. I think a bit of slip is not always a bad thing so it all needs to balance out. Blade has switched from the Koso to the prodigy as our main clutch because the majority seem to like the performance better. The prodigy will stive give a little slippage but not as much as the stock clutch we have found and the engagement is not as high as the Koso wich was the largest comlaint we got on that one. One thing I will say as an endorsment of our prodighy clutch is the pads.. Although they are the same size as the stock pads, they contain Kevlar which seems to help keep some of the heat down and they last much longer even when they slip.

I think that clutches will always be a debate in any performance industry, and the biggest problem on a national board is that we all drive in such a widely varrying terrain that the comparisons are not always fair.. How many hours the clutch lasts + the type of driving. That is one basis, but if a clutch that wears out faster gives you a huge increase in performance is it worth the $$$ . For me, if I found a clutch that burnt up 25% faster but gave me a big increase in perfomance, I would sacrafice the $$/performance. but thats me...

As we start getting deaper into Mods, we will start to see a decline in the life of the newer parts or the whole engine but with great increases in power. It is what the pros deal with weekly. Most drivers are willing to sacrafice parts for the sake of power, but the average user should find a balance somplace in between or the sport becomes to expensive.

ive been through 2 stock clutches and now im on to the prodigy clutch witht he prodigy bell and it seems to be working fantastic for me. big difference in riding through mud and sludge alot less slipage of the clutch in my case.
