Hey guys, i tried doing this by looking at all yall's postings and not registering but couldn't find a problem like mine! I have the gk-13 ktx-250w with the constant velocity carb that i picked up from a local pensacola craigslist for $500! He could get the thing started but after about 6 minutes, the buggy would shut off.And not start again(till 12 hours or so) He was just guessing and said" i think it needs a new top end". So i saw a deal because he had no fuel filter on it and the guy didnt seem so smart(not that im einstein or anything). I thought a little carb cleaning would fix it right up but i wasn't checking the spark at the time of failure. Needless to say, after i got home and cleaned the fuel tank, put a fuel filter, cleaned the carb, changed the oil, fuel, and all easy stuff, i ran it, it shut off, but this time i checked the spark and its not there. I waited till it was cooled off later on in the day, checked the spark and its good. So i put the plug back in and it fires up, warms up, then dies. When it does die, i get no spark, and i took the wires off of the (one wire) thermostat and "automatic" choke. Will this have anything to do with it? The choke only had one of the two wires hooked up(the yellow one, not the green one). What couod be making it lose spark like that? any and all help would be greatly appreciated!!! Question Question Confused Confused

I would look at the cdi and the coil. If one or the other has a defect or if they are near a heat source then the heat can cause the circuits to come apart, then after it cools off the circuits come back together.

check for voltage coming out of the cdi when it shuts off.

Thanks admin, it actualy feels good to be here! And the C.D.I. has been replaced by the guy that i got the deal from. A buddy of mine was willing to put $50 saying it was the coil. Well, is there a test procedure that i can perform on the cdi or coil? I know Bige said check the cdi for voltage, so where do i hook up the m/meter? And what am i looking for? And i appreciate the response yall........ im gonna ride this out till i figure it out!

1. Download a 250cc service manual so you can get troubleshooting diagrams and tolerances.

2. Buy a can of freeze spray.

The manual will give you resistance values between pins on the CDI and coil. The freeze spray will allow you to quickly cool an electrical component if it is out specification when it warms.

Sounds like the coil is shorting out, when it gets hot,
Do what they said and check things out.

10-4, 10-4. I'm searching now. The only manual i can find so far is a (pile of)"poop" one. It tells you all the basics, like spark gap and how much gas, stuff like that. Has ayone ever heard of a problem like this?? i just wanted to know what the deal was before i start changing out good parts and money, for good store parts. It seems to happen anyway. Well, im gonna go look for the service manual, then check my coil, cdi and regulator. I'll write back with numbers, and hopefully pics.

guys. I've been searching, and searching, for a downloadable manual and can't find one. Does anyone know where to find one? Also, i know my engine is a clone like many others, and would like to know if anyone knows what engine it is mimicking. It'll help, i could find the manual and i'll be able to go to the honda/yamaha shop or the kawasaki/suzuki shop for parts incase i ever need them that day.

I don't have pics of the buggy i bought but i do have some pics of what we had to do to get a big 1981 gmc jimmy on 42's with lift home on a narrow trailer(for 57 miles)......can i post 'em? admin?
