Yes that's right. There is 20,000 acres for free Off Roading use. If you have an off road vehicle, then you are welcome. Canadian River off of Highway 287 going from Amarillo, TX to Dumas, TX. It is North Texas. The entrance is at the bridge on the North Bound side. There is a center section of the highway you can enter if comming from the South Bound side. There is a road that is trailer RV friendly. I have seen motorcoaches down there but would strongly advise that you not attempt it. The sand can get deap and bumpy. There is a ton of trails and just about every terrain posible in one location. Sand Bars, sand dunes, steep- moderate hills, cliffs, canyon, river bed, river, mud bogs, forested areas, woops, doghnut pits (usually a dug in ground sand circle track around a tree)... the sky is the limit.
The only rules are: Be respectful of the environment (dumping fuel, oil, and other toxins), Be respectful of other's property, what you bring in, you must bring out (trash; there is dumpster at the entrance), camp at your own risk, and be safe with camp fires; it gets very dry. Bring water as it gets pretty hot in TX. And last but not least, Helmets are required by Texas State Law. I have seen park rangers down there on a 8-10 scale of me going down there. They will enforce it.
I have been riding this River for 5 years and still have not been on every trail. It is ver scenic here and very fun to ride. I have seen many Buggies out here and would like to see more. Most of the people out there are riding Quads and Dirt Bikes.
This place is worth the drive and well worth the experiance. Make sure you fill up with fuel, food and water before getting there. Nearist cities are Amarillo- 30 minutes South and Dumas- 25 minutes North. If you are interested in comming down, drop me a line.
That is good news for Texas residents or any other locals near by. _________________ Custom Buggy http://www.buggynews.com/topic13417.html

We have to fight enviromentalist all the time not to shut the place down because we do get alot of idiots out there that make it hard on the people who are responsible. What I mean is, alot of people ruin it by littering, riding severally leaking vehicles at times, not watching camp fire and setting "bomb fires" that get out of control and start even larger fires. This kind of stuff hardly happens, but ever little thing like this causes a case in the state court and this is never easy.
Bottom Line__________ Be Responsible.
I don't know where anyone is from but I need to know of some places to ride in OK, NM, and South CO. We have a group that rides from my church called, "4 Wheelin 4 Christ". We accept anything from dirtbikes to side by sides like the Rhino or Gator.
The discussionns still continues for Canadian River. Maybe we all can get together there someday.
