I would be honored to produce a plaque if you guys can help me come up with some sort of design.
The plaque should look just like or very similar to the banner here on BuggyNews.
Those close by and/or those that have been there would be best to be able to at least assist those of us who have never been there with an idea of what the terrain looks like.
Here's an overview shot of the park that may work to get us started.
I'm going to see if I can find a good topo map that has a lot better resolution. I don't have access to any good resources for that stuff at this moment. _________________ Chris Dierkens

the light shaded area is the ORV area, and if memory serves, that (the grey area) is mostly flat sand riding with a few trails in the woods at the perimeter. Of course the sand has whoops, berms and small jumps if I remember also. Last time I was there was on a YZ250, probably 10 years ago. You can watch the videos posted on here somewhere, or here is one showing typical terrain (after a quick search of St. Joe park on youtube):

there really isn't any way to get lost if I remember since it is mostly sand and the perimeter is circular. My brother said recently (when he took his rhino) that the riding was better after it rains, since the dry sand robs you of horsepower. Seems like there was always sand drags going on somewhere. I think I remember the sand being a nice landing for jumps.
Hoodlum had a good video of a trip around St. Joes on here somewhere... _________________ Buggy-less at the moment.

I would like to respond to your earlier comment about not getting lost, and there being only a few trails around the perimeter.
I do not want anyone to oversimplify the park...It is big. The ORV area is 2000 acres and 1000 acres are in the woods and on the hills. There are definately places to get yourself turned around, and there are some spots that can get a little crazy. People are taken out of the park by medivac every year. Pay attention and be careful and you will not have a problem, but there are places that carelessness could get you lost or hurt.
This is just my perception, do not mean to step on toes...

Buggy Fund Raising Marathon
I wonder how many of us could get people to sponsor us for riding a buggy the entire time. Let's say we asked people to donate a $0.10/hour of riding. I'll be riding at last 3 Days * 8 Hours / Day * $0.10/hour * 10 sponsers = $24.
It doesn't sound like much but if we had 40 riders, then that $24 * 40 riders = $960.
We could then take this money and award it to the Hopkins family every year.
Just a thought.... _________________ Chris Dierkens

I think we should get back to ideas for events at the rally in this thread. We can start a separate thread for donations and ideas for the Hopkins fund there. _________________ Custom Buggy http://www.buggynews.com/topic13417.html

if we do the cook out we will either need to gather everyone in one place before hand to gather the money or designate someone we drop money off with through out hte evnt till the cook out also taking a tally of people to show up at said cook out. another option is to have pot luck kind of thing and just get a # of participants only problem there is making sure everyone doesn't bring napkins. i also like the suggestions of a show and tell of diffrent mods done to the buggies could be organized during the same time as the bbq

Good point... We get carried away at times.
The key to all of these ideas is for someone to step up and volunteer as a "chairman" for the event/activity.
The main person in charge should keep track of when they are all to take place so that we don't have too many things going on at the same time or too close together.
Ideas are cheap, actions speak volumes.
I like the idea of a community BBQ. Is there a central location where we could have such an event? _________________ Chris Dierkens
