If you are running anything under probably 14gr rollers (maybe 13) it would make zero difference. Since most people on here are running 9-10gr rollers or sliders, the belt never climbs past maybe 1/2 of the variator. The stiffer torque spring only compounds this effect, making it even harder for the belt to climb the variator.
If you were going for maximum on road speed, then this may be the way to go, but with the lower weight rollers, they never get that far up the ramp. |
How do we determine how high up on the ramp the belt is riding? Do people put a marker of some sort on it and then run the buggy and then check it out?
I think we're all trying to get the same thing, low-end torque with top-end speed. Tough to get sometimes, but we can always wish.

I think the marker idea would be an excellent way to check.
when I tried 10's in mine (14's are stock), top speed dropped dramatically, and you could tell it never fully moved the variator out.
when I tried the 12's it wasn't much different, top speed was still lower than the 14's but rpm's weren't quite as high as the 10's.
I think 13 would probably be the limit on my particular buggy as far as fully using the cvt.
I never bothered with the 1500 torque spring since my belt wasn't slipping and it effectively makes it act like you are running even lighter rollers than you are.
I know that on mine, I can definetly feel the cvt go into its highest ratio, the engine rpm's decrease like you shifted into overdrive, this happens about 25 mph (it tops out at about 42-45 on the road with the engine power being the limiting factor).
I understand the need to have a stock buggy climb better but if you can increase your power and possibly gear it lower then you have that covered. If you are making plenty of power then you might as well use the CVT to it's fullest. _________________ Buggy-less at the moment.

So...what are the gains??? mph? climbing, anything? do you uave GPS? THanks!
I didn't believed my english was so bad...
I agree with Kell at 100%!!!
after working the variator, ALL was improved...
BUT after re-jetting milling the head and the camshaft (properly ) I transformed a sort of lawnmower in a little offroad car! _________________ The Dremel Man and the Sandpaperman

| Have any of you seen that mod someone posted about off a scooter forum, about grinding the variator roller ramps more open so they climb higher? Ill see if i can find it tommrow, looked interesting. |
Don't you read BNews anymore? Just playing with you....

well all this CVT talk has gotten me wanting to experiment with some sliders. I thought about trying some 14gr out since I'm currently running that weight roller.
Can anyone tell me why the same weight slider performs like a lighter roller?
If it comes in at about a 13gr equivalent roller then I will be happy. I notice a very slight shudder or vibration in my CVT when I am poking along on trails with my boys in the buggy and am hoping to eliminate this as well as raise my rpm just a little (without losing top end speed of course). This slight vibration doesn't occur when I have it pegged, I've read that sliders eliminate this. _________________ Buggy-less at the moment.
