I too witnessed the incident from our camp on the hill. The whole accident made me very angry after learning the children were not injured, inspecting the buggy and chatting briefly with the father. They were staying in one of those simi permanent campers parked close to us. I don't know if they were buggynews members or not. Considering the hit the buggy took , it survived very well. According to the father's opinion, it can be repaired. It truly is a testament to the safety these buggys afford. I understand the quad substaned severe damage and the driver didn't exactly "walk away".
Even though I really feel the urge to hop up on a soap box about this one, I, lacking in diplomacy and not wishing to make accusations nor give judgement will refrain from sharing my whole opinion and observations about the incident. I will only say there was alcohol and a lack of responsibility that contributed to the accident. _________________ 3206 yerf. too many mods to list. easier to list what has not been modified- seats and steering wheel. plus one set of kidinme's hand made special collectors edition fuzzy dice. Well for the record, my son was on a 50cc quad, and drag racing many of the kids in buggies.
He was always within eye sight of me or my brothers for exactly that reason... And was coached about where he could and could not go. We were right next to the drag racing, so we talked about the racing lanes as well as the return lanes.
If I had been aware of the buggies when I bought the quad, I would have bought the buggy instead. Especially after watching the accident.
When I was drag racing a child walked out into "range of the track" They were never close enough for me to hit them, but I shut it down anyway...no telling what a kid might do...and not worth winning (or losing a race anyway)

I didn't win any drag races but had an absolute blast losing!
Next year........
:
I know what you mean, ...lets see, I lost to the arctic cat, the rhino, the ridge runner, the vw dune buggy, I think I even lost to to Mully ( I missed a shift, but he ran strong)
We could not get out of second before we were on the cones. We need some longer races for next year
It was a blast, even my son loved the drag racing on his little 50cc quad
Chris
laymansm, are you using the old missed a shift excuse because you got beat by a 250?

That video sends chills up my spine thank god the kids were not injured. We all have to watch that video and come up with some defensive safety tactics for next years Bash.Young kids are out having the time of their life and don't realize what can happen, while the parents are side tracked the kids take off in their kart while these guys are dragging their 4 wheelers they don't expect a kid to come across the track. This is how accidents happen and it takes only a split second. _________________ GUNNUT

I talked to the kids dad after it happened, didn't get his name though. He did just get the buggy friday. He sold the boy Polaris quad and dirtbike to get him something safer. Good move on his part!!! _________________ Steele's Powersports

wow that video was scary and made me think if it were my daughter, she's 7 now and will be 8 at the next bash time (we'll be there then by golly).
i'm thinking of getting her, her own buggy, and safety is the exact reason (one of them anyway) i didn't get a quad.
glad the kids are ok though and they seem to be really tough
i hope the father can get the buggy taken care of, feel bad for him just getting the buggy but more glad about his kids being ok.
i agree with the idea of reversing the racing direction or roping off an extreme amount of area around the drag course for the racers to slow down and return.
again glad the kids are ok. not to be harsh, but the drunk guy doesn't get alot of my sympathy, it's kids first, adults second and drunks extreme last. alcohol, atv's and kids do not mix. i'm not on a soapbox, i'm just a dad (and parent) like alot of others here. _________________ //kneehighspy

I probably would not have mentioned it if it wasn't a 250

Any idea if the father of the buggy driver is a member here? Or just a lurker?
I feel badly about this.
More would have to be done to help stop such an incident in the future. At the very least Drag racing shouldn't be done without spotters in several locations keeping folks away from the run.... But I really think barrels with flag tape needs to be used for the entire run to keep others away. All it takes is a few seconds for something bad to happen.
I can't believe I'm hearing that alcohol was probably involved. Not good. The ATV's reaction time did seem quite poor. He waited a long time to step on the brakes from the appearance of it on video.

we raced in the opposite direction, were there was a long flat to slow down a see, unlike the hill on the other end.
we also had a guy on both ends of the track _________________ Steele's Powersports
